intercooling my hilux

Post by BRUZA »

Hi guys i am new to here and need some help with my hilux.
I have a 2004 sr5 double cab hilux with a 3l turbo engine. I am wanting to get a bit more performance out of it, i have heard about winding the turbo up but as it running 10lbs already im not sure if goings higher is a good thing, i have been think of getting an intercooler for it and have been thinking that a intercooler off a 3l turbo surf with the top mount is the way to go and can only think it would be better for the engine.
Any help would be muchly appreciated
Thanks

I have a 94 Surf with the 1kz motor. I looked into fitting an intercooler to it and was lucky enough to pick up a secoundhand intercooled 1kz from a later model surf very cheap
I had to first fit a body lift to give me room on top of the motor as motor is a bit squeezed in on these models.
To fit the intercooler I had to swap the intake manifold, rocker cover, throttle body, injector pipes. Then use the intake pipe and throttle cable also.
I used a bonnet scoop of a late model hilux and the intercooler to bonnet rubber from an intercooled
Seemed to definitely make it go better. Could put the boost up a bit to make the most of it

sounds like stick a 450x150mm or 450x180mm front mount on it, would have been cheaper and reaped a lot more reward for the amount of effort and cost involved.

No
I only paid $600 for the intercooled engine, I was always going to do a body lift and there isn't any room to fit a chocolate biscuit let alone an intercooler in the front of a KZN130 surf with winch and transcooler.
Plus I still have a spare later model 1kz engine
It also looks factory
