Just wondering why challenge class trucks need to be registered, can see the point of a wof, but the ergo seems to be a extra cost that is not required.
It does not affect insurance as there is no cover in competion, and add little input into the event.
Outlaw class drive the same tracks, more are not on public roads.
Just seems to be another few hundred dollars onto the cost of fun.
Looking for some feedback

Re: Challenge winch trucks to be registered ??
the main idea of it is that you have to be able to travel on the road to get to stages if need be. as in the old kiwi challenge where you had to drive from mamaku up to the stadia then do the tracks etc. having to rego is fine by me, im rolling a classic which is cheap reg

Rule A(1) of driving anywhere according to the Hnr. John Key.
If you can drive on it. we'll tax you for driving on it.
also in the LTSA rule book it says anywhere that provides access for motor vehicles is considered to be and subject to road regulations.

Most winch events now , stay on the one property.
Mine goes on hold in the off season, and seems a lot of others do also, judging by the number of challenge class trucks, in the last few challenges.

Don't register it and go in the outlaw class.....

Re: Challenge winch trucks to be registered ??
A registered and warranted vehicle is one that has had a safety inspection done on a regular basis and if seriously modified has had certification. Therefore its goes some way toward helping the organisers to ensure that the vehicle is safe to compete leaving scrutineering to check that the vehicle complies to specific safety features (roll cage, fire ext. etc), equipment and complies with class rules.

Just to nit pick
The cert and safety insp only relate to a wof not the registration which is the point the guy is making . If the reg is on hold its still had the same inspection and need for a cert to get the wof only .

Re: Challenge winch trucks to be registered ??
thats correct you can have a wof without a rego, the wof help with event safty the other helps paid for public roads.
I may be a bit picky but a rego on a ute is around the $500 mark and it may
never seen a public road, then there RUC.
just seems pointless when outlaw and club class drive the same courses
with neither.
is there really a point to rego on a challenge class vehicle.
this seems to be one of the decreasing classes all over the country.
keeping control of the costs might bring back entrants to this class ??

Agree totally, whats really the point of regestering a vehicle that never goes on the road? Yes keep up to WOF standard and vehicle must have a WOF, as you have to get a WOF before an Rego anyway. So its only a political issue that you need REGO - lets try keep the cost down.

Have to say it makes a lot of sense ,Tony and I will take all these comments on board when we organize our next comp early next year..
Re: Challenge winch trucks to be registered ??
I think the reason for having reg and wof in open is to limit the modifications to try and keep it even for people as a factory safari is going to struggle competing against a v8 powered tubed buggy with steering brakes etc.

I think you missed the point thats being made if you read back through the posts its not the wof thats being questioned its the need to have current registration on the vehicles ie: you cant have reg on hold to be able to compete
