Yes the location is vegas for the entire competition and will be held on the same property as last year. We are currently working on accomodation and meals and that sort of thing.
Feel free to express yourselves on the topics of whether you like camping in the bush or would prefer a motel or campground or maybe just a few more luxuries like a good supply of water.
These questions are aimed more at the competitors. Us marshals just tow the line.
Are camping locations handy? Not afraid to tent it, providing it'd be close enough to food, beer etc, leading on from that, will a vehicle be required as I would be flying up.
Send me an email and will put you on the list for future mail outs.
Camping at the moment will be on site and yes you can have the odd beer.
Transport is kinda handy to get too the event but once your on the comp property its not so bad as there are plenty of other trucks to jump in, to get to your stage.
Although if we have accomodation off site then you will definitely need to buddy up.
There will usually be several ORE members there, so shouldn't be a drama.
Competitors point of view - Camping on site deffinately made for a plesant event. Being able to stumble 5mins back down the hill to camp and you're in your sleeping back was great. Saves on having to clean all the trucks and the drive to and from the venue every morning and night too.
Having said that, if the weather aint great, camping may not be so fun. So maybe put in a order for a repeat of last year with the weather man?
Also, if off-site accomodation means we are driving the stages blind, then yep, deffinately off-site - don't like this being able to look at the stage thing.
For those of you thinking about marshalling, having been there before too, i highly reccommend it. You get to see some awesome action up close, meet a great bunch of guys and gals and theres no better way to learn the do's and dont's of winch challenge.
thats a bloody nice ute ya got there jeremy.have you pushed the rear axis foward?and what type of winch do you run?and whats the front axle from?oh and what does it weigh?
sorry about all the questions just always rated youre truck highly ,very nicely kitted out with no shabby arse jobs.
Thanks krawlr. It's not really mine, its the old man's. It's an early swb prado with a cut down hilux surf body. So it's just got the standard prado axles and suspension.
It's currently got a toyota high mount winch with two 24v superwinch motors. Goes pretty well for an electric but you really need to run a PTO or hydralic to get any kind of edge.
Weight was around 1750 when first built (including your usual 4wd gear, fuel and a driver). It's bordering on being too light as we strugle to get enough grip out of the simex's at times having to run them down around 3 psi.
We wont be competiting in the Kiwi this year, truck's in bits and the piggy bank is empty, but maybe next year with any luck.
Might be able to assist with two more marshalls, husband and wife so it will handy if you separate us...will be able to stay nearby as we are planning a north island trip at that time...
So who all/if any are going? A couple of us from down here are going to be there as marshalls - Give us a text or call at some stage and we could possibly meet up 0274 858 009, I'll be camping on site.
