1UZ-FE into Pajero

Post by Jamie »

Anyone dumped a 1UZ-FE into a 3.0 SWB Pajero 94? Can pickup one pretty cheap with gearbox if required.

Veery early stages, just a dream in my head at this stage so thought i would ask some info before i go any further. 2nd option would be dump in an old carby v8 for absolute simplicity but would prefer to stick with fuel injection. If i was to go carby, any recomendations?

Back to the 1UZFE, would you swap the engine and try to mount the box or just do a compete engine and box swap? I read the 1UZFE bolts straight up to the 3.5 box with a few minor mods however mine being the 3.0 is a different box.. Cost does come into it but the paj owes me nothing and i may have a contact that will install cheap with my help...

And yes, pajs are shit and why would you do it?.... because i want to ...

I dont see why not, things to consider would be comparing the degree of angle between each bank of cylinders. If this is close there shouldn't be too much of an issue with the actual engine.

Check which side of the gearbox the transfer case exits to, for example nissan's transfer case is on the drivers side.

after that ensure the sump arrangement is going to clear the IFS diff and mounts and steering. the 1UZ come with three configurations front middle and rear pickups..

ensure you get the half shafts from the toyota gearbox end so they can be cut/extended if the toyota gear box is longer then the mitsi one.

Something else to consider would be a 3.0 v6 turbo engine from a GTO/ 3000GT

the trade off here would be in cost, no need to modify engine /gearbox mounts and drive shafts being from the same family of engines.

don't forget if it is to be road legal a brake upgrade made be in order too.

The 1UZ will bolt up to most Mitsi auto gearboxes as they are made by the same company that makes Toyota ones. It has been done

The 1UZ is physically big, it can fit but it will be tight and you will need to do some cutting to get a radiator in or have cooling issues.

But I wouldn't do it to a Paj, they are shit.

Seriously though does anyone have any reccomendations on a replacement engine for the 6g72, would the modern ones bolt straight into my old 89 swb pajero? Or would a more modern diesel pajero engine be a possibility? It currently has the 6g72 in it but I feel its not overly healthy.

AS above the DOHC 24 valve turbo 6G72 from a GTO.

same block completely different heads and engine management system.

you can't just change the heads ethier, the bolt pattern for the gearbox is good but they changed a few things up stairs for the oil feeds etc for the twin cam heads. either that or a 4G63T evo wide block with a Sh*tload of boost.
