Jeep unveiled its Wrangler based Gladiator pickup at the North American International Auto Show seven years ago, and at last a production date has been announced.

Jeep President Mike Manley says that a decision was coming ''pretty soon'' about a Jeep branded pickup, and with a refreshed lineup expected for 2015-2016 model year, we expect the Jeep ute to appear then.

Jeep officials still have to decide whether to build a two-door ute or a four-door version that would not be as capable off-road.

It does looks good, and it's hard to tell from that picture, but the one they were running at Moab at Easter this year was a one piece body with the tray joined to the cab.

If it's like that then it isn't a "real" truck, and from what I read on the US forums the Americans won't take it seriously it unless it has a separate tray.

It just goes to show how versatile the Wrangler platform is. All these possibilities, some of which will become realities.

there are aspects of awesome and awful in that yellow TJ imo.. backwindow and tray could be better, but amazing what a couple of guys with a welder can do. I'm jealous, all I'm good with is my trusty keyboard and mouse.

Agree, tray is okay. Its rear window and spare tyre that is wrong. Rear window needs to be sliding or fixed. Tyre needs to be in the tray.

Maybe this then ??

The Brute, sold as a kit in the States using the Wrangler for starters,
a mate looked into it but was gonna be about 11k at the time so didn't go ahead with it.

It's a shortened hard top, which is why it looks wrong.

almost looks like its missing the hood.

The Brute has high-line fenders and hood. I don't think it's part of the kit so much as something that has been done to that one in addition.

Definitely the yellow one is ruined by the use of the hardtop. A proper cab back like the Brute kit has would make all the difference.

That's the one with the single piece body.

I wonder why the J12 is the model with the front like the original Gladiator while the one called the Gladiator has a JK front..?
