High Idle

Post by Mintie »

Hi Guys,

My 92 g16a efi Escudo has just decided to idle high, if I just put my foot on the clutch while driving it drops fast and will sit at 1450rpm and if i leave it for long enough it will slowly drop down to where it used to sit at 800rpm. It used to sit happy as at 800rpm apart from when started from cold when it would go up to 1450ish rpm and slowly come down as it heated up. The only things I did the night before this started was tightened the fan belt as it was a bit loose and was squeeling, install an audio amp, and fix the windscreen washer pump lines.

On another (hopefully non related) issue I have noticed it goes through quite a bit of oil, but doesnt drip it, doesnt smell like its burning it, doesnt get a dirty bum, never see smoke, and its not in the coolant. This may just have been me not paying enough attention when I did the last change but when I look at the oil bottle I filled from it only has about 800ml left in it and it was a 6L bottle?!

Any ideas on these issues boys??

Had wondered that but then it wouldn't drop down to the 1500 rpm as fast as it does. And wouldn't eventually settle lower. I had a quick look for vac leaks but couldn't see any

i unplugged my throttle senser seemed to work ok then hooked it back up with a switch in the dash so you can switch to a high idle if you need it[i][i]

i just had a similar problem and it was my air idle control valve, it was blocked and not letting water through it to tell it thats its hot, so it ran thinking it was cold the whole time, quick blow out with an air gun and it was all good
