Cast aluminium welding?

Post by pjb »

Is it possible to weld bits of a broken aluminium casting back on?
If so, anyone know where I might get this done (North Shore)?
Cheers!

It is certainly possible, it comes down to how Poo the cast is to start with (quality of the ally) but from what I have found - doing this - results vary from fkn awesome to av to poo. Also depends on the application, av may be fine ... sometimes on a bad day I blame the cast...

who where no idea but the best material I have found to weld back together with is the same as what came out. Ie the broken bits or another part of the casting that dosnt need to be there. back yard styles lol. real alloy welders will know what they need too use

Sent as PM too

We use HTS2000 for this type of work with good results. Usually we have a number of rods sitting in the workshop for repairs. It can be a miracle tool for your box of tricks....

Machine part welding? They're pretty good.

If you come that far though....bring it to Manukau and I'll have a look at it. Post up some pics.
