Help needed to replace CV boots please.

Post by kiwipete »

NB, also posted in Nissan forum.

Hi all, have noticed the inner CV boot on the passengers side of my Terrano has parted company and am wondering if anyone out there is mechanically minded enough to help me to replace it?
I have limited mechanical experience and tools in these matters, but am more than willing to get my hands dirty and help where needed.
Thinking it may be well worth the effort to replace both inners. From memory, both outers were replaced within the past 2 years.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

You have to pull the whole half shalf out Pete. Done this a few times now. Give us a call on monday and we can do one to show you how. Will need a tierod seperator as I broke mine a few months ago and just been using the knockometer instead  .

Cheers Al, will be in touch. I'm sure it is just a case of showin me how, then i'll be home and hose so to speak.

Did I read a while back somewhere that you got some boots from Butlers?
If so what price were they and how have they held up? I see the outer ones are showing signs of wear too.
Wondering if I should do all 4 of them at the same time.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Nah, Butlers suck, sick of dealing with them. Try the dedicated CV shops around town as you will probably get a better price. Takes about 21/2 -3 hrs to do a total cv so expect it to be the same amount time.

Am all set to go thanks Al, got the boots from NZCV's today and borrowed the tie rod seperator(s) from our mechanic at work for the weekend.

Definitely do both the inner and outer if you can, the boots are pretty cheap and for the time taken to do one you can do both.

Nothing worse than putting it back together and having an outer fail shortly afterwards....

Matt.

Yep, cheers for the heads up Matt. I did buy two sets, both inners and outers, all up only $90.00.
