1KZTE Manual Pump upgrade

Post by kbushnz »

Hi All

I know you can get manual pumps for the 1KZTE, Hybrid of the 2LT and 1KZTE.
Who here have done it?
And what did it do for you?
Are you auto or manual?

Who does the best pump?

Sorry for the questions, but my ECU is playing up and I scored a donor 2LT pump.

Cheers
Calvin

From what I gather it's about $800 to get the pump built or about a 2.5k+ job drive in drive out  ..But have not heard any regrets so far!

theres a new idea going around at diesel services thats worth a look, there doing a trail truck at moe, its a 4m40 pump which has a factory 12mm nosil and boost compinsator, can put more fuel out than you ever could in a factory hybird 1kz pump.

Me and mate are looking at it once this truck has been completed to see the proformance difference as my mate has a 2.8 hybird pump which keeps playing up

Just do it is all I can say, I got mind done in my KZJ71, latest dyno run running methanol injection 158HP 345 FT LB at the wheels running 20 pound of boost at the inlet manifold.

i have one on mine as well and i think it is money well spent. They can use a few different housings to build them from my understanding. I am not sure what one they used for mine. They also make 3 different types. Its basically a normal mechanical pump, slightly tuned and heavily tuned. I have a slightly tuned. cost about 100 more to build. Nathan from Kiapoi repowers installed it. He has a heavily tuned one running something like 27 psi of boost. They are worth the money as they eliminate all the electronics which makes them a lot more reliable as there is nothing much to get wet. It really makes them get up and go.

That sounds encouraging... Got a donor 2LT pump coming...
Looking for a 1KZTE pump now going or not (cheap)
Then when funds allow ship them off to have them morphed together.

4M40 pumps are used in overseas places...

Just finished swaping my old 2lt pump on my 1kz-te (or t now) for a mitsubishi 4m40T injector pump out of an '95 L400 4wd van wasn't the straight forward swap id hoped but got there in the end after removing things like the cold start and throttle position sensor + modyfing fuel lines and throttle linkages and making a new mount for the rear of the pump. once on and bleed she fired up nice and allready sounded even better, so naturally i wound up the goost to around 15 psi and wound up the fuel too. . what a differnce!!!! it now just bakes the rear tyres in 2nd and even in 3rd! i even had tarmac doughnuts going in 3rd gear at about 2000rpm and black smoke pumping out the stack
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)

If you have black smoke, you need to one, up the boost or turn your fuel pump down, a well tuned diesel shouldn't be pumping out the black smoke

Well I have finally decided to throw in a manual pump...
I have tweaked mine as far as I can...without a chip which are expensive...
After getting two donor pumps, they will be packed up and posted off to Kiapoi to be melded into one pump...
The guys who do them reckon they have it all sussed now after a few years of tinkering...It will be returned ready to fit...
I will need to sort the linkages out...
And just time the pump...

Here is a pic of the two pumps....One being a 2LT and the other a 1KZTE...

Will post more as this mod develops.

Hi im pleased your a happy man with the pump,
as for the 4m40 its not a 12mm piston they are 11mm,and its way off the volume of fuel delivered through out the entire rev range,we have also fitted them to the 1kzt and they go well but dont perform as well as the pump you have with the right tune...

I did mine on the cheap 2.8 3L pump with the 2LT boost comp on top and wound the fuel up a bit and goes good also played with the boost comp fuel curve black smokes till on turbo and kills td27s

i have gone down another path and installed a chip from no limit tuning to the standard pump which cost $200 have fitted a switch to it and a duel stage boost controller so at the flick of a switch can switch between standard fuel and boost to more fuel and 20 psi as set on the boost controller...... has taken up to now to get the boost and the chip set right as it has 7 settings for more or less fuel to get the egt temps where i am happy with. but jst love the switchabliity to run the two power settings.

Read a lot about this but can some of you guys may be do some 0 to 100kms time runs and also list tyre sizes and diff ratios so we can do comparisons between pump and chip upgrades.
