Here's a teaser.... there's one word in the English language that, when the first letter is change lower to upper case, (or vice versa) it changes not only the pronounciation of the word, but also the meaning.

Anyone.... anyone.....

Yup. Better polish off your Google page (not the Polish version) and search 'spelt' and 'spelled' :D

Or share your thoughts on them. To me they are both accepted terms with the same meaning (spelt is also something else, to do with grain or some crap I think in the usa) but spelled is more commonly used stateside.

darn google and its know-all ways!

Taz - I was thinking "spelled" as in giving someone a time out/off scenario, as the term "he' s been spelled" during cricket commentary pertaining to a bowler having a break. Or "let's stop for a spell"... as in have a rest... in contrast to how a word is "spelt". Totally different meanings.

I hate errors that are easy to avoid.

There's a sign at Sheepworld in Warkworth that says "You have past the last motel... (etc etc)".

And that's trying to promote a business!

Also your and you're get mixed up a lot. Honestly, it can't be hard to put in an apostrophe and an 'e'.

ahh, I see. You must be, much, much, much older than me
Not really used in my generations vocabulary. "Spell" sometimes in written but that's about it.

And that is why English is a bitch to learn! Mind you people who take it as a second language manage to have better written language than most of us

And why not? let 'em loose, I say, unfair to keep them all caged up.

Please do break your brakes....

One of my very pet peeves, is found on Trademe, where the FW (Fukwit) cant spell correctly, the name of the computer he is writing on, or even the make of the car he owns and is selling.
