Ive jumped to the dark side
just bought a Terrano
1990 td 5 speed, damn near immaculate.
goes reeeal well
bloody comfy and nice to drive
I think bang for buck they put surfs to shame, yep I said it. Got it for a real good price, half the price youd pay for a 2.8td surf
just a daily and soft roader but will no doubt get a few improvements here and there

That dark green side? The watered grass type green? Instead of the dry shriveled yellow grass that you're used to?
Yea, you're right. Bang for buck they're a great wagon
Re: Jumped the fence
so I been reading heaps on how to get these running to their best potential, and for economy etc.
So far im impressed with the economy, im still over 3/4 of a tank where the surf would have been nearing 1/2 tank on the same kms.
what I want to do is to simply get the motor running as clean, efficiant and as powerful as possible without modifying it, if you know what I mean. (standard motor and turbo)
Its a daily driver that will be used for family soft trips, beaches, bush tracks etc, so reliabilty and economy is key
So what I've picked up so far to do is
Remove egr valve
remove intake manifold to clean it out
Fit a more suitable free flow exhaust
What else should I be doing to the engine to look after it and to get it running even beter??
Reliabilty and economy are first priority but obviously a bit more power would be nice.

cheap ball/spring boost controller. just get rid of most of the wastegate creep.
intercooler helps a fair bit.

intercooler,
from what i have read, its the best mod ya can do.
not too expensive if ya can do the work yourself either.
there is a bit of debate on water to air or air to air though, im going with a water to air, subaru intercooler.
