Safari Fuel Consumption
Does any body have any fuel consumption figures they are getting from their Safari with a TD42, mine are pretty high but I am running 35's.

1991 TD42 n/a manual low roof running 33's 14lt per 100km, with the roof basket 16lt per 100km
Hope that helps

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
Thanks for that I am getting 19/100km, with bars, winch and the 35's so I suppose that could be all I'm going to get.
Wow the roof basket made that much difference?

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
I get around 15/100km just over 500kms off 75L that's with a Td42 turbo auto, winch, bull bars front and rear side bars, sliders and a rear bar 35s.

Yep, the roof basket is one that I made it is 2.4x1.2x.25 all steel and weighs about 60-70kg, I designed it with a sloping front like a wind foil. Its removeable so I only have it on when we are going away
Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
On the roadie 33's I'm getting ~12L per 100. Just depends on how I'm driving.
NA, manual, swb, 2 stroke oil in diesel.
Roof baskets are like driving with a drag parachute on.
Remember with 35's IF your goin off the odometer, the tyre size affects the distance displayed on it. You'll be driving further than the trip meter says won't you
. All good if its from gps.
36's put me 20kmh over on my speedo.

89 SWB TD42 with 288000km standard 31inchs tyres - I'm getting around 11 - 11.5l/100km at the moment but thats mostly open road trips to hunting grounds etc. Quite happy with that it I think.
Re: Safari Fuel Consumption

in the sand , it's alot less ..
TB42E ( Injected) 5 speed, 33's LWB low roof A/c on most of the time.
Would be better if I nana it more often.
Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
Thanks for the info guy's I thought my speedo was quite accurate but I will check it again, last time I checked it was at 60km but it could be further out at 100km as there is more variance at higher speeds.

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
my speedo reads 30kms when doin 50km/h and 78km/h when doin 105km/h. Thats on 33s as well. Used to be spot on but one day just decided to change its reading
. That and a rev counter that reads backwards its an interesting dash

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
I used to get around 13-14L/100k. N/A swb on 33"s with winch, tjm steel bar, and recovery gear in back. Round town considerably less, offroad wasnt too far off round town figures. My petrol hilux gets around 16L/100k! And slows down at the sight of a hill lol

AND carby

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
Open road used to get around 600-700kms to 80L in my old 94 LWB auto. A little bit less than than in the manual shorty with the smaller tank (65L?)
Got a turbo td42 now but I've stopped paying attention to mileage as the diesel price has gotten higher. Pay what you pay.
Must say it is certainly better now that it is not pissing out the half arsed, fatigued plastic drainage pipe filler when you corner

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
Accurate consumption is best worked out on a full tank to full tank basis isn't it??
I've never worried about checking it...I do know that on a recent trip I started with a full tank and topped it up again after doing 175km, it took 29.9 litres.

Wow that would rule out going to supermarket for me as its 200km round trip and the fuel would cost more than the food

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
About 12 litres/100km (on GPS) on 35in Kumho KL71 tyres open road driving at 100kph. Aftermarket turbo fitted sits about 4-5psi boost at 100kph. LWB hi-roof manual trans. Increases to about 15 litres/100km towing a 17ft caravan...
Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
Thanks for all the feedback, did a trip the other day which included a bit of hill work, some motorway and some 4wd and go 16L/100km.. Not too bad I think.

Re: Safari Fuel Consumption
i did 550kms with a loaded small trailer last weekend and used exactly $120 of diesel.. 95 td42 non turbo 32'' road tyres swb patrol, very happy with that.
