Safari lift?
Hey there new to 4wding looking at doing a 4" lift on my Lwb safari. just wondering what brands to stay away from and good brands?? also any tips of things i should know? would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Safari lift?
EFS, buy the kit from traxion, over the shore you'll be sweet plus longer front and rear panhards
89 safari, pto winch, 33x15 simexs. sliders,75mm lift . turbo intercoolered
Re: Safari lift?
No offence, but maybe if you are new to 4wheeling, you should learn how to drive offroad and how the truck handles/drives offroad, especially on side angles, before you jump in the deep end

Re: Safari lift?
If done properly, you'll be looking at $2000+ for all the correct gear, plus LVC.
EFS is a good brand, and there are "cheaper" options for castor correction, panhards etc when doing this, so depends on what $$$ you are willing to part with.

Re: Safari lift?
4" is alot of lift, I have a 2" lift and have no issues. Also a 2' lift is alot easy and cheaper to do
Either way make sure that you get spring rates that are going to match what you want to do
Just my 2cents

Safaris are pretty well knowen for cracking body mounts when body lifted, probably worth doing a search and having a bit of a read.
dunno much about safari stuff really but with a 4" suspension lift your probably getting up towards the threshold of needing caster correction, drop boxes and gearbox spacers to get things driving nicely again so you may need to factor that in as well?
Re: Safari lift?
-44 offset rims, if you're talking about the ten inch wide ..
Cut your gaurds up , or body lift.
( I cut mine. free and I've read enough to stay away from them .)
I've only got 33's and would hate to think how much more cutting I'd have to do to clear 35's or bigger - Some limit suspension travel with longer / lowerd bumpstops, mine are stock .
Heads up - I run the 15x10's, with 33x12.5x15 tyres.. I sometimes wish I had 8inch rims, everytime I pop a tyre of the bead! ..
But I like how they are wider than the truck, and push me of muddy banks before my doors and gaurds do (most of the time).
Let me know (feel free to pm) on What size springs you get and how much?
Also where are you wheeling ? 4inch lift is pretty high

Re: Safari lift?
I'd say go 3in spring lift. No body lift.
Get a spare rear soft brake line and fit to the front to accommodate the lift and castor bushes and it'll be fine. Should fit 33's.
I run 35's with a guard chop and 15mm extended rear bumpstops. Chopping the guards is more pissing around than a B/L but it keeps your cog down and is better for the body mounts. IF you don't want this at least cut off the rear lower quarters as they always get beat up.
The EFS stuff I got I really like. It is pricey though so figure out what you wana spend.

Re: Safari lift?
i run 33" maxis bighorns on my safari and they are great off road and not too bad on road either. i would agree with the 3" lift too. (i'm an old man emu fan just to throw another option out there)
Re: Safari lift?
Where are you gonna be driving? What sorta terrain?
Re: Safari lift?
ahhh every kind of terrain, wanna be set up for abit everything pritty much. im in a club and they do alot of diffrent places.
Re: Safari lift?
2" will lift it enough to fit 33s wouldn't it?? i'm looking at lifting my stafy as well

2" will let you fit 33's with no problems. I run a 2" lift and 33's
Re: Safari lift?
I would go with a 2 or 3 inch suspension lift and loose my 2" body lift if i can find a good lift kit thats not priced to high
Re: Safari lift?
3'' efs coils and shocks and guard chop, allows you to fit 35'' tyres in the future as you get more serious... trouble is everything changes from 2'' to 3'' and you need to allow an extra grand for drop boxes and adjustable panhards also extend lower rear axle link rods 18mm unless you can make them yourself, 3'' lift without drop boxes will make it drive like a pig and will have created something that you will be scared of on the road, they are that unpredictable.

Agree.have been down that road and they are really crap on road and on gravel can be deadly.
Anything over a 2in lift and you need drop boxes for the front arms and lengthen the rear lower arms to keep it handling good.
2in is heaps for 33s.
Btw i run cruiser(80 series) Front springs and shocks in my safari. Cost me $30 for a 3in lift in the front and $300 for new springs in the rear. But got rear shocks for free and am doing the panhards and lower rear arms myself
Re: Safari lift?
I run 80mm lift with castor bushes, and castor is near spot on. Road manners are no worse than a 2". The majority of drop boxes are usually for 4" or higher, so you over compensate for castor. Panhards weren't required, only a few mm in it, trailing arms are fine on a lwb too.
I've also run these on a swb, but did extend trailing arms to get rid of vibrations. Found it fine on that too, and no problems with having to cert if I ran drop boxes.
Each vehicle can be different, and each maufacturer can be different in lift height, even if they state the same lift. Also need to take into account the coils eventually settling at a lower height.

Re: Safari lift?
Ran 4" in my lwb pos high roof, 35" creepys fitted fine. Didn't both with the drop boxes I had as it drove ok. Mind you with creepys it was never going to handle like a sports car.
I reckon I could of run 37" with a bit of a guard trim. Ran 33" kumos with stock suspension and had no problems with guard rub.
Now running 2" lift and 35"s seem to fit fine.
EFS springs and shocks were fantastic, they are now in taz01 pos. Make sure you think about what rating springs to get. I had heavy in the front, to take in to account the winch etc and extra heavy in the back to help with all the crap I seem to cart around.
If I did it again I would of go with a 3" lift and trim the guards. Dont worry to much about the rear quaters as they then to reshape themselves over time....

Re: Safari lift?
awsome thanks for the info! i was thinking i might just get 33"s for now and getting some money together to get a decent lift kit. seems like efs is the way to go whats everyone think of ironman? is there a place in chch that does efs?
Re: Safari lift?
efs vs ironman, which better?
Re: Safari lift?
I've had both in the same truck. I liked the EFS stuff more. 3in lift is fine with castor correct bushes. Drives better than it did stock.
Re: Safari lift?
Castor bushes come in 2 degree and 3.5 degree. 3.5s are good for up to 4 inch lift, but not all GQs are created equal.
Having the front radius arm sloping forward will affect high speed handling.
Using offset bushes will affect articulation.
Using drop boxes affects ground clearance just behind the front wheels.
Decisions decisions.
