Tress Pass Notices issued in Twizel Region

Post by A Hunter »

Courtesy of the 'Twizel Update'

About 10 large properties in the Mackenzie Country and surrounds have banded together and with the FULL co-operation and encouragement of the Police are issuing trespass notices to those caught in the act of....trespass.
So if a person/persons is spotted on one property, they are automatically trespassed from all properties in this scheme ....
Support for this new scheme is growing and more properties are expected to join...

Quote from the local Police "I now have 10 farms on the anti poaching register. The aim of this register is to identify, aprehend and prosecute where relevent, individuals involved in poaching, trespass, damage or theft related activities."

So to all you weekend wanderers in your 4x4s, if you are not where you are supposed to be, and damaging tracks etc.Look out. There real talk (not in the article) is that at DOC are considering following suit .........

That is interesting.

I remember a hunting access artical I read years ago. Farmers tryed to do something similar to stop hunters from some blocks of so called private land fish and game got involved protecting there members and it got legal. It was interesting as Most of the farm land was actually leased for the purpose of farming, so a lot of the so called private land is actually public land. In the end it came down to working together.
Latest mod, pin stripes, hit the same branch I did on the way in on the way out.

Why on here - most hunters drive 4WD to get where they are going and many seem to see one doing something and expect/assume its open to all , I posted it as a heads up.
Secondly most of the high country in the south island is/was pastoral lease. This gives/gave the leaseholder freehold rights and the right to peacefull enjoyment and use of the property-the public had no right to access these properties unless negotiated with the lease holder and so can be trespassed off the property wether leasehold or not. Chainage on streams is another matter for fishing access. Chainage does not apply to all waterways.

Just check www.WAMS.org.nz when your planning your trip.

If the line is purple, then as a citizen of NZ, its your road and your legal right of access.

If not, then sounds like "big brother" is being let of its leash
