Diff under springs

Post by Scobby12 »

Hi all,
On my bj40 it has new lifted springs in the back and old flat ones in the front, what i would like to know is if i can put the diff under the front springs and if any mods need to be made for it to work and if it needs to be cert. i know it wont add any flex but would be better till i do get new ones. Would this work or should i just leave it?

Cheers

its not quite that simple mate, if you SOA it you'll probably lift the front close to 8 inches, 50mm for the thickness of the spring pack and probably 150mm for the diameter of the axle housing and the hight of the spring perch. That much lift will give you a shit front driveshaft angle and it'll probably flog out U/Js pretty quick and have a bit of driveline vibration, usually you cut the swivel balls and rotate the axle housing to get a better driveshaft pinion angle and reweld the swivel balls back on to keep the caster angle the same, you'll probably have to do a high steer conversion to get the draglink up higher so it dosent foul on the springs.

so in short its not a quick easy fix untill you get some new front springs :D
