Rear diff locker

Post by dvk-kp »

Hi guys. Quick question bout rear diff locker in a Pajero. My one isn't working. When I press the button the light on the dash starts to flash but won't engage and go solid. Pretty sure the compressor isn't working. Any one know how to fix this?

Cheers

Listen for the compressor 1stly to make sure it is not going. put vehicle in Low box, turn key to 'on' without the engine running and you'll hear the pump. Might pay to make sure it is in low range with the centre diff locked before doing it otherwise it might not work.

Another question about the locker. Can the speed thing be disconnected so that the locker will work at all speeds? Like ya can do with the factory high lift option.

Finally found air pump for the locker and removed it. There are two "fittings" on it. The outter one is the feed to the diff locker. Is the other slightly bigger one the inlet for the pump as it wasn't attached to anything? Tried to add pic but its to big and I don't know how to make it smaller on a iPad.

You can disable the locker to let it go in at speed but don't ask which wire it is.

Yea one of the ports on the pump doesn't have a hose on it, thats the intake side I think, Im not pulling the panel off for a look!

Have you tried to power up the comprressor with it out with just a 12v power supply?

Test as NJV6 recommends. You would be able to hear the compressor pump for a very short period of time, they only pump to 8psi. The air inlet pipe is normally open .
The speed at which it clicks in is safety feature for the diff and is not really recommended to take away from it.

Not many con's, its just a fail safe thing. You can't put it in unless you are in 4WD and also it will only go in when moving slowly. Once it is in though it will stay in, it doesn't unlock automatically unless you turn the key off.

Yep tested it and its a no go. Possibly cos its full of water! so once the diff locker is engaged it won't unlock no matter how fast the wheels are spinning?
