Wanted: Suzuki Samurai / SJ413

Post by jimmyf8 »

Looking for a road legal Suzuki Samurai or SJ413.

Standard or modified, preferably minimal rust.

Would possibly consider a lifted 2 door Escudo or Vitara or a cheaper Jimny.

Your help is appreciated, been looking for a while! :)

This is why you have been looking for a while. You'll have more luck finding a vitara. Sj's get snapped up pretty fast and people will pay decent money for a tidy one. They are worth the wait though

Paitence... on the likes of TM they seem to be all or nothing - a few fkd 1s for too much OR a whole heap of reas deals. Around New years seems to be the time people flick off stuff but dont quote me

My banged up reg n wof 413 cost me around 1900 - less the near new 30s on it... some rust is to be expected as is maintence wk. Mine has minimal rust but dents and has had a hard life so keep spending $ here and there but is 26 years old.

Real men drive zooks

Yeah realised the tidy ones are worth a bit. I would love this one but feel $9500 is way too steep!

Going to look at this SJ413.. Needs a few things to get a wof so not sure what its worth...?

Also, does the amount of ks travelled on these things matter too much or are they pretty reliable either way, provided its been looked after? The SJ413 has done about 250,000 if I have interpreted carjam right.

That SJ seems like a good deal, its a bit high for my liking, a good piece of advice is don't buy a mint one, you will just about cry when you slide into a tree and put a massive dent in it  I would avoid anything with over 200,000 on the clock as everything wears out, wheel bearings, UJ's gearboxes, diffs etc. You will end up spending more to fix the issues than it would cost you for one with lower k's.

These wear out on all trucks, A high k well serviced truck is going to be better than a thrashed low k one imo. Being if its a Samurai they are all going to be over 10 years old, some well older esp sj's so maintenance IS going to be needed. Its just a matter of when.

dont be too scared tho, parts for these are pretty easy to get if you know the right people and the right places to look. they are easy as to work on, and the best way to learn about you truck is to do the work yourself!

Sweet, should be easyish to tell if its been looked after or not.

An older couple down the road have a standard red 93 sammy with 166ks on it and it looks pretty tidy. Gonna try hound them until they wanna sell it haha. How much do you think it would be worth?

Anyone know of any others for sale??

I would pay 5k for a decent one, however I picked mine up for $3500 in showroom condition, was advertised for $5800, went back a couple of months later, score! 8)

Dont worry bout dents, then you dont worry bout the 1s you put in it...Kudos to those that do panel n paint, but rnt u worried bout havin fun in it. It dosnt matter what you buy someone will have got a better deal - its a matter of weighin up what you see as a gd deal. Any zook will have ks on it and consumables (wheel bearings, bushes, UJs etc) will get worn. On the up side they arn't much more to wk on than a mid 80s corolla - the tec side is the - plus 4wd

zukmeista I looked at that TM sj and it's definately too high! Was certed for 575mm lift in the front and 550mm rear. Had a spring over axle set up. Wouldn't be practical on the road.

Thats within my budget but it would be a massive drive haha and unsure if an ex winch challange truck is the way to go or not...

What do you think?

Looks to be pretty good value to me, tyres probably worth 1K, winch $500 easy, probably been thrashed but the only way to get an indication of that is to look at it in person.

Thrashed, rolled, bold and assholed.

Especially after it was sold to the new owner.

The coilys are absolute crap, don't touch one, you will be disappointed.

Find your self a nice leaf sprung one.

No, not quite.

Its all SJ80 apart from the front clip, which is SJ413.

Its a completely different truck which was saved from mudbits

The leaf sprung SJ413 body got cut in half early on, then it was thrown out and the SJ80 body fitted.

Don't ask my why the leaf sprung chassis got thrown out, something to do with cutting mounts off and then regretting it, but it happened and a SJ80 chassis was put under it.

He then got in re-vinned and put on the road.

It was straight when he sold it

My bad, I spoke to him a couple of years back at the Rotorua winch comp and thought he said he coiled a leaf chassis but that's just my "old man" memory
doing funny things again
