roll cages

Post by Rangerat »

Hi all
Hope everyone got some good toys from santa!!!!!

Roll cages, Has anyone out there fitted one to their truck?, and if yes, how did you get on with the certification or WOF?
I plan to put a full cage into the Rangie as I'm looking at getting into my first comp (I know, about time I hear you say)

Cheers

Hi
Several year ago I was looking at building a wagon etc and was in contact with a cert man . He said if the cage is external it fell into the bull bar rules and thus not need certing . I was planning running a cage up though the body in front of the window then over the cab etc .
You would need to check this as he may have been wrong or the rules changed etc .

A semi external cage , ext on the upper half of the vehicle , would save the glass and door s from the worst damage but still be flush down the sides etc .

good luck

Seasons Greetings Rat

Internal or external you wil still need to meet the standards for the compitition your planing at entereing, this will state how big your feet on the bottom of you cage have to be, bracing, tude dia etc just ask for the rules
As for cert thats easy, it is a low level cert (visual inspection of the welds) so long as there is nothing to stop the doors working or someone getting you out if there is an accident, and dosn't effect the vehicles crumple zones or the working of airbags if fitted! ( read no excesive side impact bars or engine bay space framing etc) and ... you have to keep a log book with a min of 3 logged events a year (could be 18months...)

Still pay to get in touch with your local certifier :? lets just say that I've found different certifiers read the rules differntly!
(if your reading this Tom I'm going to have to get a certified welder to go over all my welds on the chassi and syspension! almost worth taking it down your way for a drive and certifying  )

Bugger :( :( Weren't you going to run a couple of beads and get ya ticket Reece? Might be cheaper to do it that way if you have the time. Otherwise come for a mission, we got a spare bed and heaps of rocks to play on while you wait. Just had a thought.......... check out that website again (lvvta.govt.nz) cos ya don't have to have your tickets aye. But then again its up the the certifier whether he passes you or not and maybe its easier for him not to have to look too hard at the welds!!!!!!!

:? I know I should but just at the moment I don't have the time :( I"m still at work, no chrissy holidays for me, hopefully I'll get the chance to play in winter

Yes I have read the site  I think I must be close to having printed the whole site by now  and yes I could push the issue on the rust repairs but he is right I'm sposed to have a cert if its suspension related and with the falcon spring swop and boxing down the front spring mounts

The other thing I'm looking at, my certifier is letting me do some sick sh1t on other projects and I don't want to upset him  and it shouldn't cost more than a couple of doz :D to get a mate in for the arvo

Hows your beast going? you bombproffed the back end yet?

Cheers Reece
