Land Rover Series 2a

Post by DonMcDazzle »

Hi all,

just looking for a bit of advice on old Land Rovers. I'm pretty keen on a series 2 or 3 SWB ute styled one. One like this is right up my alley:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/land-rover/auction-503447014.htm

Just looking for thoughts on a realistic price range for something like the one above, in tidy condition without too much work needing to be done. I'm fine with doing minor fixes and do-ups but don't want to be rebuilding anything. Majority of the ones I have seen on trademe seem to be pretty shabby and beaten up.

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Don

2 to 3k is a realistic price these days for a resonable series 2 or 3, and you would be hoping for minimal rust, the rego is still live (on hold) and if not the original motor, hope that it is certed otherwise that's a few hundred bucks to squeeze from somewhere - not to mention the extra work.

Coz you asked Image

To be realistic S2 and S2A landies are all 50+ years old now which means if you own one you'll have to expect to be spending more time fixing, maintaining and spending money on it than driving it the same as any other collectable 50+ year old vehicle

Cheers guys. For better or worse I've bought a 69 s2a, posted another thread about a potential chassis swap as there are some dodgy cross members that need fixing so check that out and give me some much needed pointers! Probably the first of many things I'll need to patch up :?
