Do you know what oil was being used for the last 16 years of its life? Just keep using the same.

I have used castrol magnetec diesel 15/40 in last change, seems quieter in running..
Re: Best oil for my Nissan Safari?
15w-40 castrol global ES or Mobil Delvac. Best 2 I've had so far. I use fleetguard filters too.
Re: Best oil for my Nissan Safari?
I have found that of the 6 Safari's I've had, they all preferred to run different oil. My current one runs Shell oil, and burns Valvoline faster, where the last motor was fine on the Valvoline

Agree'd, my current safari did not like valvoline unlike my last one...so far this one is running well on Castrol magnatec
Re: Best oil for my Nissan Safari?
i use valvoline 15/40, i wait till super cheap have a 25% sale and buy 5 ten litre drums..... just have to decide yourself, asking a question like that you generally get conflict of opinions and it doesnt really help, then someone will give you too much info to confuse you more... i change mine religiously at 4-5000kms thats why i buy the cheaper stuff, if you buy expensive stuff you still have to change at the same intervals.. the td42 is an old engine and was designed to run on oil that was produced in that era so any modern oil will be good enough... but that is just my opinion.

Thanks to all for the answers, went for Valvoline 15/40 (picked up 2 x 10 litre drums in the Repco sale) as that is what the previous owner was using and it seems to run perfectly. Cheers VW

fyi if you run a turbo td42 do not use the valvoline desiel extra. I does not handle the extra heat and load and will stuff the turbo quick as. Been down that road twice now trying to be cheep prick and has cost me two turbos.
I run delo gold and have never used a drop between changes or had any turbo issues since using it.

Yep x2 for Delo except I use the 400.
