Uniden PRS batteries

Post by fullthrottle »

My Uniden 2w PRS handhelds only hold their charge for about 30mins now, so time to replace them.

Pulled them out and they are a little confusing.
Seem to be 4 standard rechargeable AAA's, but in an odd configuration. Connected in serial with only the positive and neg at either end of the series. Basically outputing a total of 4.8volts for the handheld.

When I look at the handheld itself, it actually has terminal contacts for each individual battery, even though with the factory battery it would only connect with two of the 8 terminals.

Anyway, what is best to use as a replacement.
Could I...
- just fit 4 rechargeable AAA's into the unit and each would connect to the terminals.
- need to get another 4 AAA's connected in series, with just 2 terminals exposed for connection.

Cheers

If so the owners manual says either the battery pack of four AAA batteries.

pretty much with stuff like that, if it has a picture of batteries its safe to assume to put batteries in.

After having a read, it would appear that the HiMH batteries need to be joined in series, where as the alkalines can be put in individually.

Must be something to do with the charging only being supplied by the bottom left and right terminals???

Odd configuration.

I just use Sanyo Eneloop AAA rechargables. Work great, you just cant use the Uniden charger.

the battery cell on the esplanade may be able to make up a pack for you, otherwise replacement packs are avaliable, ebay and deal extreme may be worth a look as well

OK, so I have a price.

Cellmate can build me the equivalent battery pack, but with 3 times the capacity of 2100mAh NiMh for $32.15 + GST

I'm getting mine done from here.
