2.0l 4cyl
hi looking at getting a suzuki escudo/vitara been looking at 2dr 1.6 efi manual ive also seen a 2.0l 4 cyl and wondering if some one could tell me a little bit obout them are they an orphan as most 2.0l seem to be v6 are they a cambelt or chain engine are they very economical and reliable got a 1.3 corolla at the moment tried taking it 4wding but it doesnt like it much
does it share the same body as the v6 wil probably mod it a little bit but it will be a daily driver as well

Re: 2.0l 4cyl
The J20a powered Suzuki are really rather good. The motors are generally really reliable and they are good revving motors. The engine itself is just a larger version of the j18a. I have seen a couple of suzukis here with a mild cam upgrade on them and then they really come alive. Some of the jap spec ones are mental.
and yes, they share the same suspension and body as the v6. The y have the slightly extended nose on them over the normal suzukis. also I am fairly sure they are chain driven

^ that sums it up. They can come with airbags and ABS as well.
Re: 2.0l 4cyl
thanks for the answers do thet have the same problem as the 1.6 with the exhaust
Re: 2.0l 4cyl
J20A's need the cam chains, tensioners and guides replaced every 150K's to be SAFE.
they are a 90mm stroke and because of this dont like to rev hard, 7000rpm is enough to see them put rods through the block - seen it on many occasions. They leave the H20A for dead as far as economy & performance go. the H20A engines perform like a G16A just they drink alot more gas to achieve it.
No suzuki 4wd will have the fuel economy of a corolla, that wasn't what they were designed for.

45-50 litres will get you 400-450 km on a trip, less around town

Re: 2.0l 4cyl
I'd go for the V6 model
, They mite drink more gas then the 1600 as any V6 would but they have more grunt on hand to pull you out of the stickies situations which mean you wont be redlining the rev's all day long while your driving off road which got to be good for the longevity of the engine.
As a daylie road 4x4 vehical ther premo on gas as long as ya don't thrash the thing shes good and besides a 2 liter V6 is a small CC rating for a V6... And they have more stability with a little bit wider track width then 1600 and sound awesome with exhaust work done to the V6....

Re: 2.0l 4cyl
There is a cross over model, which has the J20 motor but still has the suspension of the original Vitara/Escudo. I think it is about 1995. Look for the 2L on the back door and as long as it is not a Grand Vitara you may be close. Hopefully all the tried and true Vitara suspension mods may still work. I found one and took it for a test-drive, it went only ok but there’s definite potential to make the ideal Suzuki.
Cheers MIKE.

actually there isn't. it is the same vehicle as the ones with the 2.0 V6 just it has a 2.0 4 cylinder parked in the front instead. they all have the 1 piece cast lower arm/balljoint set up unlike the 1.6's with the unboltable balljoint.
grand vitara's weren't made until 1998 and are a totally different shaped vehicle to the earlier 1.6 and 2.0 vehicles
