As they are out of the same stable as the 3L I find my Hilux goes best down hill with a tail wind. (Sorry couldnt resist)

fit big exhaust, fit 3l cam, wind up the boost, fit intercooler, wind up the fuel.
high flow 88c thermostat and a decent radiator.

Hi mate, I looked up the surf ASN forum (Ozzy) when I had mine. Look for the forums written by Terry Syd. I was able to beat 1kz's after I followed his instructions.

First is exhaust 2.5 inch is heaps
Second more boost, either by boost tap or washers under the actuator.
Then the fuel pump ramp, refer to the forum on how to change this.
Then drilling out the restictor hole.

That should make the old girl go a little better.

surprised the egr hasn't been blocked off already. its a must do and need to disable the egr butterfly. surf tech site has it under "turbo boost fix" i think its called.
you will probably want to clean out the inlet manifold and heads inlet ports.

terry has a couple of good write ups.
he did a bit on cam timing including an adjustable cam pulley. a few gains there.
fueling wise its modding the boost compensator so fuel could be on earlier.

btw this is for 2lt(2) not 2lte or 2lt(1).

Yeah this is an earlier one, 1987 ssr surf. I've done a few mods today. 2.5" exhaust, Drilled out the compensator hole to the size of the hose. Ive just notice it keeps over boosting. (the red LED keeps lighting up on the dash) any idea what is happening? And feels like it has a slight miss.

Cheers

the red light is just a general error message. commonly known as red light hell. you can get the error codes but i've not seen any listed for the 2lt.
the ecu side is only for emissions and glows. just blank out the light ;)

'87 could still be 2lt(1). make sure you get the right version as theres a few things that are different.

make sure you have boost and egt gauges before you go playing.
