Tight nuts!

Post by luckyme »

I am in the middle of changing front driveshaft, just snapped kingtony T-wrench trying to get yoke nuts off
Tomorrow supposed to be out muriwai...

I'd very appreciate if someone could help me out(on the shore) with a decent rattle gun- apparently my one is weak as- or any other way to get those bl**dy nuts off somehow.

You wont be thirsty after

Cheers,

Bit far for me to come over to help..

Have you tried just cracking them in the tightening direction? sometimes you can "break the crust" that is holding them. Assumed you have gone nuts with the CRC 5.56/WD40 or similar??

I think i've plucked up enough courage to install my lift myself.
(first major mechanical adventure)

Anyway, the guys over in the states (im on the jeep forums over there) always talk about 'PB Blaster'...

is this similar to CRC/WD40... or is there a better penetrating oil i can use to help loosen my nuts... :)

Cheers

Fingers crossed for the long weekend...

CRC and WD40 are not proper penetrating oils. These are just water despersants (WD). Go to BNT and pick up proper penetrating spray. It works wonders.

I read a paper where a uni had chemically rusted/seized a bunch on samples and tested various penetrating fluids and a few home handy man type things as well. They recorded the torque required to undo these samples. PB Blaster was in the test, as was a CRC penetrating fluid. The one that performed the best was a 50/50 blend of ATF and meths. Thought it was interesting.
