reversing camera?

I want to mount a camera under my chassis so I can view the pto winch . Can you guys recommend a robus camera an monitor that I can buy . Hopefully I can mount the small camera where it won,t get covered in mud (yea right).I see you can get kits from j car etc but not sure weather they will stand up to the treatment from being under the chassis.Any ideas?.Cheers. :shock:

its not just a camera. you will probably need lighting as well.
black and white camera with a separate IR led's.
B@W camera does low light better and you won't need color. also get a low res cam ie a 380, better for low light and at that range you don't need high res.
CCD handles changes in light better than a CMOS. the problem you may face is strong light from the sides will make the area you looking at very dark.

mud won't be such a problem, but dust will be.

screens, get the biggest you can get.

thanks dude for your reply not sure what you are talking about as I have enough trouble programming the TV let alone techinical stuff. Awesome point about lighting as if you are winching then you will be struck in mud etc an light will be a problem.Cheers :roll:

cost $75 and another cam is $45 as a spare does the job as a winch cam great pays to have led strip light above for night vision helps the navi see the winch too
a big screen isnt necessary you can watch how your rope is spooling on/off and stop yell at your navi when issues arise not often mud covers cams but quick wipe and its good to go
also ive mounted mine above the winch on the bullbar so its protected as i got a habit of collecting pungas ......big uns....

sorry i got my wires crossed a bit as to your use.

the above is ok but strangely enough try a cheaper camera. theres still a few 380 or even 320 res cameras. for close range use they will work better than a 420+ res.

The camera is the little black thing on the left, its about 15mm across.
Cost $22 USD for the camera

Screen cost $23 US, and delivery is free but can take a month.
The resolution is low, a better one would have cost a lot more. But I can do that in the future.

The wide-angle camera means its useless for viewing anything more than 5 metres away. However its IR sensitive and an IR light would help in the dark.

My next plan is a couple more cameras...
* left front wheel looking down to see where the wheel is, and what's in front of it.
* General underside view looking forwards
* and front view for shots like this

or this

Then to hook all these up to a recorder of some description.

Is there some kind of splitter than can be purchased so I can split the screen in 2 and get views from 2 cameras at once?
I have a 7" touch screen to go in and a couple of cameras.

yes there is. but you may be better to get a quad screen.

I have a question I bought a reversing kit from Trade me, but the screen brings up those coloured lines.
How do I get rid of them?

what sort of colored lines?
got a pic?
could be screen is set on the wrong system ie ntsc/pal/secam or there is a connection fault.

Nah I do not have a pic, but they are the yellow, green, red lines that are in the shape of a triangle with the tip cut off, I know what they are for I dont want them showing, just the video of what the camera is pointing at.

i think that is meant for distance measuring. ie to help reversing.
might be an option in the screen menus to turn it off.

I have tried that but the screen menus are very basic and do not show any settings to turn these lines off.
