1kz fuel system issue, any tips much needed
Hey there, I've got a 1994 ilux urf and i ran out of diesel the other day I put more diesel in the tank about 15 liters and i primed the hand pump on top of filter and it wouldn't start so i cracked one of the injectors to get the air lock out and cranked the engine over but nothing came out of the injectors so im guessing there's something going on with the pump? Because I've had the hoses off the filter and I can get diesel to pump out. Any help would be much appreciated could there be something as simple as a fuse? Or lose wires?
Re: 1kz fuel system issue, any tips much needed
make sure fuel is coming out of the filter.
then pull the return pipe off the pump and see if it pumps anything out.
i'm picking its still air locked somewhere.

Just keep pumping and pumping...And it will eventually start to feel hard..
Then you can start to turn it over...
The 1KZTE is pretty much self priming...

i had the AA come out when it first happened and he tried several things he also said the primer should start to go hard and we ended up getting it rock hard so the system was pressurized for sure and then it still wouldn't turn over so it gets to the filter no worries it exits the filter fine but just cant seem to get pumped into the injectors, so just priming it doesn't work anymore ideas please ?

normally air locked in the injector lines. but you mention you have already opened them and no fuel coming out. which is why i suggested see if fuel comes out of the pump. if its coming out of pump then its either still air locked or you have control solenoid failure.
small tip, when you open an injector and turn the engine over, put foot hard on gas. that way it tries to pump max amount.

okay ill try seeing if fuel comes out of the pump which bolt would i crack to se this ? the one on top of the pump that i can see?
Re: 1kz fuel system issue, any tips much needed
just pull off the smaller of the two fuel hoses.
btw you cracked the injector at the injector not at the pump?

took the smaller hose off and pumped the hand pump nothing came should i turn the engine over and see if it comes out?
Re: 1kz fuel system issue, any tips much needed
yes, crank it till it comes out. it will really pour out when it does so you may just want to bump it over to start with.
the point here is make sure the pump is full of fuel.

okay so i done that and to start with nothing came out the tried again and a little bit started poring out, i found one of the hoses going to the filter had a leak so i fixed it and now the hand pump pumps till its hard.

Was thinking you must have an air leak before the primer or you could have a fault primer. They are prone to leaking.
You shouldn't be able to twist the primer housing

na the hand pumps fine after i fixed the leak in the hose, im sure its something with the diesel injection pump nothing comes out when i crack any of the injectors and turn over is there anyother way of trying to bleed air out ?
Re: 1kz fuel system issue, any tips much needed
if pump is pumping fuel out the outlet , ie its full of fuel and nothing is coming out open injection pipes then i suspect the solenoid/spill control valve has failed.

okay the injection pipes are the metal hoses that go to the ijectors? should i undo at injectors or at the pump end? and it my solinoid is failing is it a costly repair and wat sort of work involved

Ok if you have good fuel out of the filter housing and none at the injectors then it could be due to the spill valve(solenoid) not working which is most likely due to a faulty engine computer. There are capacitors in the ECU's that are prone to leak and corrode the circuit board

i would be picking failed valve. should be easy to check if you have a multi meter. check coil resistance and check if its getting any pulses.
i think there is a thread on the aussie surf forum where someone had the same thing, ran out of fuel and spill valve failed.
Re: 1kz fuel system issue, any tips much needed
how long are you cranking the engine for with the injector lines loosened?

Okay so if my solenoids not workping how do I fix it? And when I have the injectors cracked and tried cranking over multiple times for ages had both battery's hooked up to running velchies

sorry can't tell you how i've never done it. however from what i read its a bolt on/off job. tho i would be checking voltage to it and the winding resistance first. i think the valve is rather expensive. at worse a full pump rebuild. so it pays to make sure it is at fault first.

Okay thanks anyway man. I've got a friend coming over after work with a multi metre to check if there's power to the pump
