3.1 Isuzu Bighorn

Post by Dirtydog »

Howdy guys, needing some help with an isuzu problem.

Im looking at buying an isuzu for cheap, only problem is that its throwing oil out the breather,

Anyone know what this could be?

is it a simple fix? new head has been put on, new turbo and a couple of other little things here and there.

this is also the second engine, done around 120,000 ks

its a factory 30mm lift and bullbar model if that helps.

put a catch can on it, and just empty it back in the motor when its full or tap into the dipstick tube and have the oil return back in to the engine, easy as
SASed Isuzu Mu - hilux diffs, Rears up front, disc brake conversion, ifs hub swap, crossover steering, and legal!!!!

Mine did that, thet are a prone to presurizing the sump its just an Isuzu thing. As Gotflex said chuck a ctach can on and the problem will be solved, just make sure its not a cheap one, it needs to have some fine mesh in it to seperate the oil from the air otherwise it will just keep on going and not get caught

i didnt think it would be a big problem, its got a kiwi style catchcan at the moment lol, good old coke bottles.

so any recommended brands out there? and i like the idea of it going back into the dipstick.

You can get one from SuperCheap a nice silver or black one for around 60 or 70 dollars.

Remove all the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recycle) emission stuff off as this will blow the head gasket/or crack the head and as above comment do not let it get hot.

Ok guys looks like something else has popped up.

I have been keeping and eye on the pressure temp etc, and all is fine,

apart from the fact i can almost use the oil pressure guage as a rev counter.

the breather has also started making a funny turbo whistling sound, which leads me to the conclusion that the a seal has gone in the turbo, which is forcing air into the oil galleries, which in turn is forcing both air and oil out the breather, causing the problem.

im also going to get a compression test done, just to make sure.

does anyone know of a good place in the gore district to get that done? i can take the turbo apart myself etc. just dont have compression gear.
