2LT head compatability

Can anyone tell me if an early roller rocker type head will bolt up and work with a later model 2lt/2lte block?

As far as i can find via the internet the bottom ends are essentially the same but i'd really like to be sure before i start putting a new motor together.

Has anyone done this? Or is there a good reason why i shouldn't do this?

i would check cam belt setup. remember something about cam belt layout was different.
also of course manifolds and turbo are different.
