Hey guys.
I've got a Holland pintle hook (rated at 30'000lb for towing) that'll bolt straight up to the 4 bolt pintle mount on the back of my swb pajero (same style as on safaris/bighorns/landcruisers/everything).
Wondering if it'll be suitable as a basic snatching point with some High tensile bolts.
Was going to try put matching nuts and hardened washers behind the bolts so as not to rely solely on the factory captive nuts in the plate.
Any thoughts?
I see there's a few on here that have the combination towball/pintle style hook like so

that seem to use them for recoveries (I wouldn't have thought the towball added to them was any stronger than a standard towball) so Figure my cast pintle that seems to be rated a lot heavier than cheaper ones for sale around the place is going to handle the jandle....
Pintle hook on factory mount
Re: Pintle hook on factory mount
providing you have a 10mm plate about 200/300mm behind the chassis so its sandwiched the chassis
ie: pintle-chassis-plate

Re: Pintle hook on factory mount
choice
yeah the rear cross member is a tube affair with a big arse plate on it for the pintle to mount to.
Might flick the bumper off and investigate putting a little extra bracing in there perhaps.

my 2cents
looked at one in the past, still a bolt in tow ball personally would say no for a snatch point
is there a rating on top of the tow ball?

Re: Pintle hook on factory mount
dunno bout mitsi
but have one of those combination pintles on the back of my 80 series cruiser bolted to the factory 4 bolt location
have snatched plenty with it including 2 trucks hooked together
also towed car trailer with anywhere from 500-2500kg on it
never had an issue at all, would recommend them

Re: Pintle hook on factory mount
I have a pintle hook on the back of my pajero which has been well and truly tested. No worries for snatch recoveries. There is so much debate about recovery points I reckon its about time there was a standard test. I've had a few discussions with scrutineers about recovery points. Standard hooks it seems arn't rated so no good yet a rated hook, despite the fact that its actual mounting isn't rated is fine. The standard pajero front hook on mine has been through hell and back without any issues. Ratings on hooks is pointless without actually testing in situ. Wouldn't be that hard to test surely. Secure chassis to test bed and apply rated load to hook at various angles. I would think there would be a market for someone to make/test/supply rated recovery points for individual models. Anyway I digress, as above, standard Pajero recovery points are up to the job.
Re: Pintle hook on factory mount
yeah i've read that the factory front hooks are mint. will add another though for good measure.
me too on the towball style ones. Mine's a genuine Holland hitch cast one that doesn't ahve the ball though.
one like this, essentially

cheers for replies!
