Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
Ok guys kindof 2 questions in one here.
I've no colleected pretty much everything for my fuel injection conversion, where I am stuck is the water supply for the old style mechanical fast idle valve. Since the carby manifold is heated by the exhaust my block doesnt have the small water outlets for the EFI manifold. Hose supplies want $55 each! for suitable brass fittings. I need to Tee the heater hose approx 16mm in a 8mm hose. If anybody happens to have anything laying around or know where I could get some considerably cheaper.
Or the other side of the question, will the idle valve heat up enough to close with just the electric heater inside it to bring the idle down? Or does it have to have water as well.
Cheers,
Clive

Re: Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
So just to clarify,
You want to connect a single 8mm hose into a 16mm hose, so the tee will have 2 x 16mm and 1 x 8mm.
I'm sure I could get fittings to do that for much less than $55.
Let me know if you want me to get a price.
How much of a hurry are you
Cheers
Tim

Re: Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
Can you get some 16mm tube drill a hole in it and bronze a 8mm tube on.
Re: Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
Brassfit comes back at $46, a bit better but still wasnt planning on spending $90 on connectors.
Correct yes, need to T one 8mm hose into a 16mm hose, so need a T with 2x16mm barbs and 1x8mm barb, x2 of (one for each side of the heater circuit.
If I could braze and had the bits laying around I probably could
So far next bext option is take a hacksaw to pickapart next time I'm in Tauranga and hacksaw some correct size steel pipes off a couple of random engine blocks and use those as T's
No rush..few more bits to grab before I start installing it all anyway if anyone can get prices
Thanks
Clive

10 dollars from your local RD1. stainless steel too.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
The ones I found are 16mm down to 13mm so if you can get down to 8mm from there all good or else it looks like pick a part.
Re: Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
They might be a good start.
RD1 was going to be my next port of call..I'm sure a farm shop would have something I could jimmy up to make it work

Hi Clive,
Have you had any luck with this, as you are on a real budget build, buying new brass fittings is going to be relatively expensive. I could make a couple of steel Tee's if you really get stuck.
Cheers

Re: Where to buy fittings to Tee heater lines
I have seen that Gates actually make plastic automotive heater hose fittings for making up custom pipes using straight hose. Just have to look at the catalogue and see if theres anything suitable and try ripco or similar to see if they stock/can order them, surely be heaps cheaper. If I get really stuck ill let you know..i can weld heavy stuff alrite but am good at burning holes trying to weld light steel with my arc
