1kz idle problem

Post by wsnownz »

Hey guys. Problem is, truck cruises absolutely fine, when coming to a stop at traffic lights or something, the revs will drop right down to 500 or so. It will stall if i dont give it anything and if i do, its usually fine and idles normally. So its just when i stop, the revs are low.. What could be causing this? Drives fine otherwise

Shut off butterfly in the throttle body getting carboned/gunked up possibly causing issue.

There is a thread on here that describes how to remove it, or you can just clean it out and polish the housing.

Mates Surf eventually started stalling on him when he came to stop at intersections. A good clean and polish sorted it out. The butterfly is supposed to help with startup and shut down.
On startup it is shut so the engine can build up cranking speed faster, and on shutdown it is supposed to help stop run-on.

I had the throttle body cleaned at the last service so it should be alright?

I'm not all that familiar with this engine just yet but how could I tell if it was?

From what i've seen on the web this arvo, it looks like my symptoms are of a stuck egr valve. How can I fix it, does it just need replaced? Cheers

Don't bother trying to fix, block the EGR off/delete it altogether.

Thanks for the info. Looks easy enough but I don't really have the resources at the moment, away from home for a bit. Anyone in Christchurch be able to do this for me?

Summit 4wd (montreal st) did mine when the did the head work. You could call them for a quote or give Rick at 4wd accessories (Watts rd) a buzz.
