TD42 Turbo Fuel Pump Mods?

Post by monsta man »

I have a 1990 Lwb Patrol currently running a Scr 320 Turbo, full 3" exaust no muflers. Fuel pump was wound up before turbo went on and hasnt been changed since, has the odd bit of diesel smoke but bugger all. Being a patrol it has an inline pump not the rotary ones. Basically just wanna know what mods people do to the injecter pump to get more power. Places to get the work done would be handy aswell. Also another what seems to be a rather contravesial discusion, but once fuel pump has been modded, what turbo would still be best suited. And roughly what kind of money should i roughly be looking at parting with to get the pump modded. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

not to sure whats needed with inline pumps but if you want more power wind the boost up but with your turbo i wouldn't be going higher than 10psi.
I like to use the tdo5 but there are also lots of other good brands out there as well.
As for some were to go can't help with that

Hey mate, go have a yarn to the boys down at Turbo, Diesel and Air Cond (they are the Waikato dealers for Iron Man 4x4) on Kaheikatea Drive Extension they are very switched on and will probably be able to do a few handy pump mods for ya

Diesels are opposite to petrol. Leaner it is the cooler the burn as such. Richer means more heat and melted pistons. Your statement is true for petrol's, not diesels.

at the moment if off boost and under load she smokes like a trooper but under boost u cant see any smoke at all, turbo boosts early starting at 1200rpm and at around about 2100 making 12psi, when getting up to high revs 2 just over 3000 its pulling 18 psi. But overall has no where near the power i expected from it, dont get me rong the turb has definiatly made a difference just not as much as expected, will try another turbo some time early next year, and hope to get the fuel pump done before that

a straight through 3in exhust will really make a difference. And a decent intercooler. Those turbos are way outa their efficency range above 12-15psi and at 18psi will do nothing but turn into a hot air gun then blow.Ask coxsy.
gotta get that air real cold to get some decent gains

you may need to drop a boost compinsator off a td2.7 on it,
my first version of turboing no waste gate operating,oh rear seal on turbo blew, oil everywhere,
oh a few rings stuck in their grooves did help compression

both right
the compensator reduces fuel for off boost but also in some toyota engines it has a double taper compensator pin. so when boost goes to high it leans the fuel off. probably an overboost protection setup.

Hey coxsy do you know what made the seal blow? I'm going to put a SCR320 on my old girl over xmas and am also forgoeing the wastegate. Going to run a full 3" system however. I was going to leave the fuel at stock for a while but.

My patrol still going hard 35 pounds all day long , stock pump , stock motor , no smoke heaps of grunt , pops cvs like twigs and sounds like an earthmover, don't be scared to push limits of stock equipment, good ex temp guage and lots of boost, the primary turbo T28 still feels new after continual abuse, check out my posts on here for pictures of the compound set up
