Rust removal on a Safari - quoted prices in Wellington.

Post by CLUMZ1 »

Gidday team ORE,

How does a price of $280 sound to cut the rust out of my rear wheel arch and patch, bog a bit next to it, bog 2 bits on the other arch, and cover and replace 3 small holes in the boot?

Won't mention the company yet, but keen to know opinions on what its worth, want it done properly as I hate rust, but not wanting to do welding myself.

yeah man, filler should only be used to finsh over patches, in a minimalist fashion.
I got a car of mine painted by some douchebags that thought bogging rear arches was the go. didn't last long.
$280 sounds reasonable if it's done nicely, and properly. are you getting it paint matched?
I'd be inclined to try and go without bog at all. rear arches often get rubbed against banks etc. soon as you scratch the paint or crack the filler, it'll let water in and start the process again.

yeah I'm not overly keen on bogging but the quoter said its not bad enough to cut and shut. don't care about colour matching as I'm respraying the whole thing later so have asked for whatever colour they've got lying around

Not enough to cut out,  Guys full of shit. Never herd the sayiing rust never sleeps? bog it and youll be redoing it in 6mnths. Sometimes itll hold out longer but go and get it cut out properly. Somebody on here may do it as a perk? or try a panel shop on a saturday see if one of the workers will do it for a perk, alot of shops will over price rust jobs just so its worth them doing it. Cuts into there insurance work etc time. Usually smaller shops, not the big flash ones do the majority of wof rust repairs.

Cheers for that - might have a hunt around. I'm happy to pay the right amount to get it done correctly, once.

I've always had real good treatment from the guys at "Just Rust" in Tawa, did a cheap good job for my old bush hack.
