looking to buy new truck advise

Post by 1justin »

hi guys looking to buy a truck for weekend driving/4wding

was looking into getting a safari because there got everything out of the box but also intrested in the land cruiser

although the leafs being under the diff seemed like it would cause some ground clearance

was interested in the mwb 70 series would prefer a 1hz put there price is a bit up there compared to a safari

then saw this land cruiser

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 596454.htm

so was wondering if anyone knows any issues with these models or doing a sprung over mod to them, and if you'd suggest getting a mwb cruiser or a swb safari

its a very hard decision between a landcruiser and a safari, i have seen those landys get bogged down really quick, but then again safaris have there problems too.

i would personally go with the safari, but thats mainly cause im a nissan fan, and because they do have stronger axles etc.

also depends on what your looking at doing to it, i think there may be more stuff for a landcruiser, and its easy to put a larger engine in it, but i suppose with the safari you dont have to worry about it.

it really is a hard one.

you could just bite the bullet and go for a suzuki lol

i was looking at a sj413 but not many around for sale, id say when your by yourself stuck somewhere youd have alot more chance getting a sj out then you would a 2.5 tonne land cruiser or safari

yea id buy a turbo safari so it would already have the power

13b'ts go alright power wise?

although I'm a cruiser man if your looking for a heavier diesel truck definately a safari over a 70 series cruiser, heaps better technology, coils all round instead of old leaf springs, 4 wheel discs instead of disc/drum, drive train is pretty bulletproof, easy to play around with suspension heights and rates and if your doing harder stuff the weak points are easy to upgrade, draglinks, trailing arms, panhards and FWHs etc, if you want long wheelbase you could concider 80 series cruiser and although there awesome trucks :D there well over priced for 20+ year old vehicles and have lots of well knowen and documented $$$problems$$$ :?

cheers for the replys that truck i posted has already sold, thought id seen pictures of it before tho, will be a good thread to check out!

yea so maby just get a safari to start with then when i want a project il track down a hzj73, so the safari will be for smashing out 4wding want something i can drown and smash up and wont be worried, got a 3rd gen surf but got stuck in some water the other day and decided i should keep it for light offroading and maby away from water dont wanna be drying out carpets all the time or cleaning all the mud off the inside all the time

il look for a swb safari with a lift kit and turbo then wont have much more to do with it

is upgrading the arms on them a very big expense?

also i think i came across a thread about things to look out when buying a safari on this forum but didnt find it when i searched anyone seen that

mite have to move this to the nissan thread now unless anyones got a set up toyota truck under 10k there selling
