Wilberforce river

i am looking at heading up Wilberforce river was at lake Coleridge last weekend fishing and went for a look but didn't go past the start of the riverbed.

Will be heading up for some of hunting so chances are will only be the one truck.

so how hard is this track? do you have to cross the river to hit DOC land or can you stick to the one side?

the alliterative route is through Glenthorne station does anyone know how far up there tracks take you?

How far up the Wilberforce do you want to go?
Access through Glenthorne cuts out about 3-4km of driving on the river bed, but ultimately you can't get away from that.
Just take it easy and pick your lines and it will be sweet. We have shared Urkerts hut (heading into Brownings pass) with some guys who were in a standard disco, and they did no damage to it.

would like to get up to that point but that all comes down to weather conditions etc but anywhere can pitch a tent is good :lol:

Tossing up if we head in there or into avcoa river.
Both are on the to do list anyway

Easy travel as far as Bristed stream without crossing the main river. Past there depend what the last flood did and what line you pick, sometimes easy, sometimes bouldery.

Take heaps of extra food etc. Both the Wilberforce and the Unknown (feeds into the Wilberforce) can come up extremely fast :wink:

Pick your weather well and you'll be fine. Its awesome country back in there and will make you feel really small

I had a look on google maps last night, looks awesome country... can see a few tracks leading into the area....Gee if only that was on my back door step...

The area is huge. We have only been up towards Urkerts hut (3 times now though) as there are some good rock trails up the waterfall run offs up there. Would love to get soemone to fly us around the whole basin for a good look one day. We had a guy who was trying to organise a tv doco with us driving as afr as we could possibly get and then choopering the trucks over Browning pass to the West coast and carrying on down that side. It never happened, but would have been cool if it had

had a family friend who got stuck up there for few days while river was up just meant few more days of hunting

cant wait to get down there for a hunt trying to get another truck or two just for safety but should be awesome

that whole area is amazing country and Wilberforce is meant to have some of the best deer around so i have heard
