HELP....Having problems fitting spring to front of V6 vitara

Post by Chairmen »

1997 V6 escudo/vitara H20A
I'm having problem's fitting a lift spring to front right atm, the ball joint connected to the control arm will not allow the knuckle to drop Taken all bolt's off (strut, steering arm ball joint un done but wont release, stabilizer ball joint)
an yes if your thinking it we have try the gentle persuasion technique with large john key friendly hammer :D
Has any of use with V6 come across this problem or have a trick or two around it?

P.s if anyone's got a spear set of manual locking hubs for the v6 thay want too get rid of PM me....

Cheers

Use spring compressors or take out the two bolts that hold the lower arm to the chassis, fit the spring then jack the arm back into place and replace the bolts.

Cheers churchill
I tryed spring compressors on luck there,
I like the sound of hocking the two struct bolt's back in and taking out the two bolts that hold the lower arm to the chassis, Cause for some reason the steering arm ball joint and the ball joint conected to the lower arm wont slide there bolt's out.

On my 1.6 I ended up taking everything off the hub, then putting the spring I with the control arm hanging down, then jacked up the control arm and bolting up the strut with the jack holding the control arm up. Would that work?

Yeah that is exactly what i was trying to do, but two ball joints would not allow there bolt's to be pulled out so could not fully break down the hub.
What worked in the end was what churchill recommended pulling the two bolt's out of the lower arm at the chassis, drop arm then use jack to compress up spring in arm.
unfortunetly the rear is alot higher then the back now lol so ill have to take the spring spacers out of the back tomorrow
