old man range, whitcombe road

Post by imsohi »

hi all i am looking a running a club trip in this area next year and just after some info on track grading(how hard it is)

i am looking at taking trucks through that have a min 33inch tyres, traction aids, some winches, good driving ability and after a challenge.

Are these tracks a good option and is there any others you can suggest around the west otago area.

Many thanks Leigh

I havent been there for a few years but it all depends on what time of year you go, its an easy drive in the summer.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Pretty straight forward for well prepared trucks. Stick to the track, dont be tempted out to the ruts around the side, track holes are mostly rocky bottom. Suspended silt and muck in them so watch your radiators.

is a great run have done it at both extremes. Went over one jan in an old surf in 2wd the year later went over in fully set up safari was an absolute mission. Just check the weather forcast first as it is completely exposed and becomes deadly. No joke guy has died from truck slipping off side of hill due to bad weather conditions
