That's a bit rough isn't it? I mean I know you love your supras and all but come on, "unless it's free" does being more waterproof than a petrol engine count for nothing?

Fair enough, What I should have said was the 2.8's can get rather costly to purchase, you may or may not be awear of this,
since yours is petrol my understanding is you will need new engine mounts, and bellhousing. as with any engine conversion have a look at all the options.
not a 100% on this but the engine mounts don't match, I've never measured but I know the deisil mounts will take a supra conversion and the petrol won't that means they arn't in the same place
As for the bell housing that shouldn't be too hard just ask on here there is bound to be a left over from a supra conversion floating round...
unfortunatly I've just had a big clean out of scrap and all my spare bellhousings went
payed for a couple of box's of piss tho
I'm with matt, they are expensive to fix hows the seals on the injector pump?
has it run on the new fuel ?? if it hasn't or they are leaking, to fix it your looking at the same cost as a bellhousing to do a supra conversion
Oh and you'll need other little bits and pieces like desiel filters possibly a new feul pump, the wiring etc for the glow plugs
Where as for $400 you could get 2 cressida's
ask round you might find you could even get em for free there's your motor etc sorted all you need is a bellhousing clutch and flywheel, your $400 will cover that
And you come out with more power
Cheers Reece

I agree with the supra engine fans. I retrofitted a daihatsu 2.8 turbo diesel to my 87 d/c hilux with the 2.0 litre petrol, and if I was doing it again I would do the supra thing and lpg for economy.
I don't know about engine mounts/bell housings etc, but the guys at Lineside Auto (800 4-Hilux) would probably have a good idea of what is involved.
What I do know is that if the diesel engine is not in great nick then at some point it is going to cost big time. In addition you will find that if you are going to bigger tyres ( a huge temptation always) you will find that the 3L is a "bit quiet" when it comes to turning them. This will lead to further temptation to put on a turbo, improve the injection pump, intercooler $$$$$
Finally after having to do an expensive rebuild on my engine I can tell you that having an engine you can easily replace would have been fantastic. To be able to pull out the lump and throw in another over a weekend is ideal for off roading. I think in this game it is a question of "when" not "if" you will need to change out a motor, and I would rather have the cheap option.....that said I do enjoy the low down torque and whistling turbo of the diesel....

i've considered this very thing though be it in my cruiser.... (diesel 3b to petrol v8 )
although the v8 would be a stomper of an idea, i'm staying with the 3b as off roadin i need low down torque ( the 3b loves idling along..) and not to mention the waterproof factor, plus i have 2 of them at my disposal and are cheaply sourced.. i know the v8's are powerful, dont get me wrong, i'd love one! but it all comes down to preference and dollars.. as far as a 3b goes, for reliability and price for me, its just right..
