Patriot offroad wheels

Post by williamhamilton »

Hi guys, I have a customer with a 2010 Patriot who wants to do a little 4x4 driving. His daily rims are 20" so not all that good for tracks. Anyone know of suitable offroad rims for a Patriot? I have tried a couple of my suppliers and coming up dead ends.

He still has his original 17" rims but I am not sure if they are rated for offroad but that size has also a limited range for mud tyres. Keen to drop to 16" at least if we can.

The MK's have a 5 on 4.5" (114mm) hole pattern and 39mm (1.535") of offset on the 16X6.5 rims which = approx 5.25" Backspacing. See chart and more info here: https://www.rsracing.com/tech-wheel.html

apparently the front calipers are often an issue on these (Patriouts) without a spacer.

I understand MKs have the same 5 on 4.5in stud pattern as YJ, TJ, XJ and ZJ. Wheels for these are common in 16 in variety. However, the issue you have to worry about backspace and clearance for the calipers, as well as guard clearance. Try a tyre off a TJ with 16 inch rims and see how it goes.

TJ Sahara / Renegade came with 16 inch rims from factory, mine was.

When he is done with his first trip or just when we find rim/tyre combo?

One maybe more interesting than the other :)

http://Www.4wdbits.co.nz, where I got my 16 inch alloy wheels from. Why go steel and add un sprung weight on top of the tyres. Braking will not be the same.

just incase you slam down onto a rock and bend the rim.

much easier to fix a steel rim if ya need to out in the field, alloy rims just crack.

also cheaper to fix a steel rim if they become buckled.

Not all alloys crack. Depends on their construction method. The myth about steel rims being more off road friendly has been busted. I will not debate the issue here. Also alloys can be repaired, just as steel rims.
