Time to oil PX light out

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
Lady at work has asked how long does it tipically take for the oil pressure light to go out in a 4.2 diesel nissan , assuming non turbo .
They have one and it takes 7 sec's . Its been in teh shop etc with no obvious fault , ie has some bearings replaced etc so not justa casual look . They wonder should they still worry about it or is it normal .

Cheers
Chris

7 secs is WAY to long. OK, couple of things though, the pressure sender in these is known to cause trouble, about $150 to replace. Also, there are two different types of filters required depending on the year. One engine has two identical filters, one has one filter different with an internal bypass valve. It may have the wrong filter on it.

Cheers, Jeff.

And believe it or not, the brand of filter has a big effect on the time it takes to build up pressure, there's several threads on that topic on outerlimits.

They should either have two Z115's or a Z115 and a Z463(i think, can't remember DaveM will know )

If someone has put Z9's on it, which will fit, that could be the problem.

Otherwise its most likely the sender unit. You can generally hear when they start to build up pressure
