I have 35 simexs on my truck as a daily driver their noisey as #### of the road but awesome off road , ive heard the silverstones are a softer rubber and more susecptable to guard rub and rocks etc cutting them if i were u id go for the simexs , also there isnt much difference between the two price wise ? like 20-30$.

the silverstones were always an undersized tah, they have got new moulds bringing the size up now but from what I've been told you have to be carefull what you order coz theres still old undersized stock floating around

as far a comparison between silverstone and simex the silverstones have bigger voids between both the centre blocks and outside blocks and are a softer compound

what he said

if you decide to go for silverstones you need to get one's that have a manufacturing date later than February this year, then you will get the new one's that are supposedly 35.5" on a par with the Simex

It depends on your truck too. As said above, Silverstones have bigger voids so they don't need so much horsepower to spin them fast enough to clear. They suit lighter trucks also as the cases are a bit softer and bag easier.
But my choice would be Simex as they put up with much more punishment and wear slower.

My 2c worth.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

You can not go wrong with either, both do much the same job I have nothing bad to say about the Simex or Silverstone's........... yeah I do they are bloody noisey on the road apart from that they are great, I have at set of undersize (non true) 33" Silverstones and I am very happy with them.

I also agree with what sibainmud said in above post.

Have ran 35 and 36 simexs, felt the 36" triple blocks didn't seem to clear the mud properly....iv heard that if you run big power best bet is the simex over the silverstones as they can have a tendency to tear lugs off...iv only ran dirty diesels so never had to worry bout the high hp issue

Thanks for the input guys :D .. didnt really help as I know what most were saying  ... Would the new silverstones not be as prone to tearing off lugs.. :?: its my main reason to not get them.. as price for simexs is main reason not get them but if it means not tearing lugs then I'll get them.. see what I mean..I dont really want to spend 400 each only to fk them .. rather spend more and have them last..

From what I have seen, I think both are a good off road tire, of the same design.

Sizing is another consideration, especially if you want the 36'sX12.5 which is an advantage of the Simex and size does matter.

But the larger lug spacings of the silverstone equals more grip in a comparison size, which is important if you are restricted to the smaller tire sizes.

Silverstones should also be easier to bag with the the softer compound.

It is a tough comparison as both are so similar.

You will also need to consider the weight of your rig and how often you plan on replacing them.

If you 4wd in Queenstown the rocky terrain may also be a consideration for you

They are both popular tires. I have never run silverstones but find the simexes (36X12.5) great in the goo.
Latest mod, pin stripes, hit the same branch I did on the way in on the way out.

Yip I hear ya, but the tahs will be solely for comp and mud runs as I have club tahs now which work great around here..and If i need more I just bolt on the chains.. so I guess either will do fine but my main concern was ripping lugs off and fking the silverstones...If the new ones are going to be able to handle the jandle then I'll most likely get some of those as they are cheaper if they are when I actually get some.. :? so it really depends on when I can at this stage..

I am in the same postion and not being able to decide, curently running silverstones 35 on my mid wheel base cruiser an wanting to up grade, Does the weight of 4wd come into it as I notice that alot of 4wd using silverstones are middle to lighter trucks?. Cheers.

If you intend to use them in Central Otago I wouldn't have either. They are a tractor tire that is self cleaning and not designed for spinning. The rock down there would destroy them in 2 seconds. My Simex are ripped from a 3 litre.

Go for a radial in that terrain would be my advice. I very rarely use my Simexs at Reefton because of stone in the ground. They are good at Westport though

Guys,

TJ Wrangler

3" Lift
(1" Body and 1" Motor mount probably coming)
Stock Gearing 3.73:1

Looking at either
32" Simex @ 33.3" @ $430 each
Or
33" Silverstone @ 32.5" @ $350 each
(unsure if new size or old size yet)

Im after aggressive mud tires, as i will be keeping my current 31" ATs as my road tires.
The Simex or Silverstone will get some road use, as currently i don't have the ability to transport 5 tires, then change on site.

What would you recommend i get...?

Naturally the Silverstone's seam more attractive from a price point of view...
But money isn't everything...

Cheers

Well after getting the silverstones.. im totally happy with how they rock.. I just have to learn how to use them
I have noticed a move towards the silverstones but Im not sure weather its because of price of performance.. :?: and I have noticed the top guys starting to use them and cant fault them really..compared to the simex..
I had 1 run on them and can say they are awesome but cant really compare to anything else as I havnt had anything else.. if that makes sence..lol time will tell.. cheers

Hi Big,

Yeah, i think I'm leaning towards Silverstone's.
However, i am still in 2 minds about my mud tires.
My concern is that i do not have the ability to transport 4/5 tires, they will get some road use.

I understand these are not road tires, but how to they fair/ware on the hard stuff...

Bearing in mind, i will also be keeping my current ATs

Cheers

They dont wear that quick, I got my 35" Silverstones off kbjj with I think 12mm tread? cant quite remember, but I use my truck to run around town a bit and weekend 4wd trips and dont change them. Ive probably done 8000km on them and they wouldnt be down to 10mm. On a heavier Vehicle, Safari 80series etc I imagine road kms would be alot less though.

What you have to remember is that an off road tire is only good for the first half of the tread depth and then needs replacing so the ks you get if you use them on the road are quite low.

Got the silverstones on our Prado in 35's, pretty wandery and noisy on the road although that is to be expected. Real good off the road have saved us a big panel-beaters bill because slipping doesn't happen anymore, it's like having another set of lockers! :D Highly reccomended

I have recently got a set of 32" Simex's for my truck, I have not yet had a chance to try them out prior to that I had the 33" Silverstones which in my previous post said they are awesome Iam expecting to get the same result the only difference is size wise.

I don't know about Silverstones vs Simex...

But i went with Silverstones.

Anyway, first run with them, and there is something to be said for "Mechanical Sympathy"

Compaired to my Dessert Duelers i didnt have to push half as hard.
previous hills where i had to 'give it death' to maybe make it up, and simply crawled up with ease today.

I like my new tires... :)
