Quick D21 Terrano Question

Is it cool for me to plumb boost guage off this line (TD27):


Have to wait a few weeks for the EGT gauge - in the interim I'm planning to run 13-14psi without any other mods (i.e. just upping boost; no changes to mixture & no intercooler).

Boost gauge is all set up and just needs to be connected to the motor. Boost controller gets installed tomorrow.

What are the disadvantages of blocking the valve, over installing a plate?

Seems a lot easier.

the spring in the EGR valve may be over come by the pressure in the intake manifold and be forced open if running more then stock boost.
same principle as a waste gate actuator on a turbo ...e.g. 12 psi spring.

Yip, Thats where my guage is plumbed in, but mine has the original hose running to the boost compensator on the diesel pump? The egr actuators had hoses running to solenoids next to the battery box, which are now blanked off.

Thanks - good to know and I'll probably leave the EGR until I get a blanking plate moved.

The gauge is installed but it's sitting at zero on idle (& shaking violently) - I was expecting it to read a vacuum... Is it likely I have a leak somewhere? Unfortunately I don't have a vacuum tester.

I noticed my boost gauge on the terrano doesnt read vacuum aswell, i just thought it may be in the wrong position, they have conected it up to the wastegate accuator hose with a T peice?

that is correct, A diesel engine doesn't create vacuum as it does not rely on a throttle body to govern the rpm's (like a petrol engine) ..that is done by the injector pump.

Gold - thanks for the info. Everything seems to be running fine and it's hitting 10psi @ WOT as expected. The needle vibrate at idle is a bit annoying, but it goes as soon the car's in gear.

Interesting learning about diesels - so different to petrol engines yet surprisingly simple. Thanks again for your help.

Try putting a small restriction in the line (possibly dampner from a carby emmissions setup). It will slow down the needle movement reducing vibration, and won't change boost reading at all, just needle fastness to react to the change if that makes sence
