What engine to put in the Land Cruiser??

Post by manatoa »

Hi guys i have an long wheel base 84 HJ60 H2 with a 5 speed manual gearbox it has 138000km on the clock (don't no if i believe that) and its lacking abit on the power side especially on the hills i want to stick with a diesel engine but not sure what to go for? something that drops in easy would be good and not toooo pricey?

So what do you guys think rebuild the old engine? or what would be a good replacement??

any help on this would be appreciated.
cheers

you dont get good and cheap generally in the same item

look for a 24valve 1HD/FT engine with hair dryer would be the way to go although the engine may be a little pricey compared to the old 2H

Mine went ok even with 2 melted pistons
If the old 2h only has 130 odd ks on it Id be looking at a good turbo kit (not a cheap one a good one from Aus, Safari, denco, axt etc) an getting the fuel pump modded to suit the turbo set up
Didn't barbie drive a jeep??

sorry misread your origional post mate i thought you meant you 2H was poked, if you want more power first you got to remember its a coal burner not a petrol truck, stick a turbo on it or sell the thing and buy yourself a turboed 80 series cruiser it'll end up a lot less work and possibly money in the long run

I'd serously think about what Saddam has just told you. I owned a 2h 60 series for 15yrs (many moons ago) and basiclly they are a pig. They have shit house suspension, seriously underpowered, and are prone to major rust problems. I know they have their fans, but they aren't the nicest thing to look at either (although better than the super mega fugly 55 series).

If it was my money, I'd ditch the thing and buy another wagon that ticked more boxes.

if your going to keep it you want to put a good quialtiy turbo kit on. Most of the of shelf kits run a tdo5 which its a real good and reliable piece of kit.
Will be dear though. You could make your own setup if knowledgeable with the tools for around half the price of an aussie kit
