vzn185 front diff problem?

Post by blonka »

hi pretty new to this 4wd stuff and I have a problem with the hilux. I am guessing front diff but would like some other opinions.
When i put it in high 4wd the car wont move at all I can see the front driveshaft rotating but no power is getting to any wheels and there is a horrible grinding noise, when in low 4wd the truck seem so drive fine with no noise.
ideas??
thanks

that sounds like a transfer case problem if its doing it in high but not low.

if it was front diff it would do it whenever in 4wd.

what is it doing while in 2wd?

KZN185 surf's can be driven in all wheel drive (with the ctr diff unlocked) and also in 4wd (ctr diff locked) correct? The transfer case lever will say something like H4-N-H4L-L4 and then there is a selector swith that selects 2wd and 4wd.
If this is right then does it do it in both options for high range 4wd?

The transfer cases in these are interchangeable (with some minor mods) for 90 series prados, and they are have a really shitty ctr diff unit.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
