not another bloody safari!!

Post by crazyclark31 »

Well have decided to put my gradual build of our lwb low roof on here.

When got it it was a plain jane auto. Don't think it had ever been on anything harder than a gravel road.

Since then i've been busy in the workshop building bull bars and sliders.
Have also fitted a 12000lb runva,33s,cruiser frnt springs and kings in the rear(My front ones got pinched  )
Sway bars been removed, and have fitted a reversing light.

Plans are to keep doing things to improve it offroad while still keeping it on the road so will be a slow prossess.

Some things on the list
Rear bar work
pipe work around the wheel arches
3in lift
shave diffs
when trans gets rebuilt will get it uprated so can turbo it

any hints/tips/advice will be greatly appreciated

So pics of things so far........
Imagegot rid of the weak plastic flares and replaced with good old conveyor belt
Imagerear end of side steps
Imageside veiw of steps
Imagefront bar.reckon it needs another bar under headlights, any sugestions

So far aside from the winch total cost for mods is $50 8).

I've just bought my first LWB Safari, after having 6 shorties. The extra room is great. Just ordered 80mm lift coils from Trade Me.
Will also be doing bar work, sliders, 1/4 panel cut and aother bits as money allows

forgot to add. one of the focuses of this build will to do as much as poss without spending coin. Am a great beliver of why pay somone to do what i can do or learn to do.

All bar work is made with an old arc welder and a grinder. Pipe is leftover stuff from building sites. Sliders were made out of an old trailer and a gate .

Just changed the inside light from the useless round one to one with the individual lights for driver/navi plus a general area light. (was from an old telstar we have lying around)
Am setting up the air cooling for winch as well.pics to come if they will work on here!

Couple of questions. Has anyone raised the rear shock mounts before? cause man they hang down. If i do it do i need to cert it?
Also does the diff shave need to be cert'd.
Doing those mod as most of the club comps down here have a tyre size restriction (33s)

put some new 50mm2 wire for winch on in time for this weekends comp. Had some lifted springs in but gave it 5inchs of lift and it stood it on its nose  so out they came  . Will fit some spacers instead.

Pics are up on first post

thought had better do an update so have record of what i've done.

Fitted a boot/back seat divider. Made it so can grab stuff from the boot when shes fully loaded. Which happens alot when we head away :D . Have got a mesh grill that clips on when 4wding or boot not quite full/dogs are in there.

Got rear bar made and fitted along with a quarter panel chop.
