91 80 series cdl not disengaging

Post by jear bear »

Hi, Can anyone help

I havent used my truck for a while, I took it for a drive today to give it a blow out, while out I through it into low and when I put it back in high the cdl would not disengage, I had to put it back in my drive and when I made a right hand turn I got a bang from the transfer case and the cdl dissengaged, I took it for another drive to make sure I hadnt busted the tranny and found it hard to get the cdl to lock again but it did after taking it for a dive down the road in low, but now it wont disengage again, I have never had a problem with the cdl before and know little about it so if anyone has had this problem or knows a fix your help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, yeah it did make a clicking noise from the relays!, but it did disengage after a bit of brut and does re-engage after a bit of a drive but was wondering if it was the motor, however it must be working to some degree. do you know where i can locate it? I havent looked yet but would be awesome to just know exactly what I am doing.

The unit is on top of the transfer case and its a bitch to get to, all you can do without dropping the whole gearbox down is take the cap off the motor to check if the coils are burnt. Just tried googling some photos but no luck sorry.

Sounds like the mechanism is jamming, this is what caused mine to burn out :-( Would be best to get it checked out.

Shows here how to lower the transfer case to allow you to remove the CDL acctuator
