Pre Turbo, where the manifold collects under the turbo flange, if you are in CHCH, I've got the drill and tap.

Is best before turbo ...then its called a Turbine Inlet Temp Gauge (TIT).

After is 2nd best option as the temp wont be as high after turbo & also the turbo tends to mask temps & takes longer to show high readings.

Do you guys take the manifold off to fit the senders or do it in place and hope turbo survives any little bits of metal?
Would like to fit one to mine but don't wanna remove the manifold. Been there years ago to replace gaskets

Do it in place, use grease on drill bit to collect the swarf and stop it falling in, cleaning it off and re greasing every now and then untill it breaks through. Same with tap, use grease and clean it off a few times as you go. Then use a magnet or magnetic screwdriver to pick any bits out from inside the manifold through the hole. I had almost no material inside.

Thanks for the replies.

kbush, where abouts did you get the drill in? Just from the top? Because in mine the steering shaft looks to be in the way..
