Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
Right, how I plan on painting repairs etc,
1) PA10 all bare metal (well what I can get at),
2) then fisholine into all seams, sills, etc with a weed sprayer nozzle (bore holes where needed and bung later),
3) use panel glue to seal up all seams etc (whats best),
4) hippo line interior floor (because apparently its hard wearing),
5) under body seal where needed (allready have some) .
Any better products or sugestions?

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
My nav rotted in all the same spots , im a tradesman panelbeater and your pretty much on the money with your method but fish oil should be the last step otherwise the oilyness can stop paint from sticking and therfore allow rust to creep back in , oh and underseal is your best friend
as for seam sealing any urethane based adhesive sealer will do (cheaper than panelbond) then drown everything in underseal and after its cured get your fishoil in every bolt hole/ alighnment hole / gap in the structure , just a question did you use a weld through primer on the insides of your patches? if not make sure you really hammer it wil fish oil or these will be the first bits to go. good luck cant wait to see it finished.

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
forgot to mention that if you can afford buy some good quality cavity wax like tectyl instead of fish oil , it lasts longer gives better protection and wont leave your truck smelling like you picked up some hamilton girls last weekend

Cheers for that. Weld thru primer?? Is this simalar to purge welding. It's all been tig welded with stainless filler rod, so at least the welds will last
That tectyl sounded good, but I've got the fisholene now. The Underseal I've got is thick tar typ stuff. I'm going to need to fisholene before gluing/sealing so it gets into seams etc but will paint what I can first, yeah?

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
Cavity wax/fisholene is always the last thing to get done, If you seam seal everything then paint then cavity wax youll be fine, I mean its a 20yr old truck are you still going to have it in 20yrs? your repairs are probably better than the factory job anyway.

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
haha your question's answerd mine , its basically a zinc rich primer that doesnt burn away around welds insted it sort of liquifies and then encapsulates the weld in areas that you cant easily access to prime after welding. fish oil has to be the last step otherwise it will also stop the sealer from adhering properly which will cause grief down the track. I wouldnt get too concerned really aslong as you underseal it to keep the moiusture out and use plenty of fisholene your repairs will last for years , just dont stick it on its lid again!

Ford Mondeo fans mounted on there own frame that supports there weight. Glued rubber 'flare moulding' to shroud edge that sits against radiator core. Moved Radiator forward 40mm to give fans plenty of room, which ment losing air-con and bonnet latch, and cutting recess into bonnet brace etc etc

Welded ali fitting to manifold thingy so I could utilize standard air-con hose for on-board air. Drawing air off the top of the motor breather catch can

Napenape

A better all-rounder I think, early days yet thou. They are softer in the side walls compared to the silverstone Xtreemes , and I have popped them off the beads 2 or 3 times already.

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
still looking good, i am interested in what axle you used for the front ant transfercase setup etc?
i wish i sold the ranno and got a navara, but its yet to be certified so i may just chuck a navara cab on it yet. thinking maybe a d22 to be different
If your ever down this way id love to go on a mission with ya

Ummmm....
Front diff housing is hilux with the ends chopped off, tube welded on other side and GQ safari balls machined to fit, running a Prado high pinion head (4.8, shimmed with extra spring LSD), Bj60 axels, and GQ cv's, knuckels, hubs, brakes, etc.
Setting up bump stops accuratly, as needed a reference point for other mounts, positioning etc.
Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
thats right, cheers for joggin the memory
Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
Bj60 axels, and GQ cv's,
Are the splines the same or did you respline the ends on the axles.
Cheers

Same same, just plug and play. Good luck getting axel out of gq cv, I had to cut original axel off, dismantle, then machine the remaining axel out of birfield.

Minor prob, window winders go around ok but no glass appears. Just as well really, cos at least the boy can get in and out of his door that wont open, and I can reach the bungee that holds mine closed. Now I just need a bigger garage to put her in when not in use

Went up to old Townshend hut site (simple farm track) and found a lovely wee camp site. Photos are from a couple of side tracks that may need a little further investigation with the right permission

Re: D21 Navara SAS with falcon rear leaves
Right... am in the process of fitting an elocker to the rear, was going to use a surf rear axel housing and do a disc conversion, but it ends up being a similar width as my std navara that I'm presently running 25mm spacers on. I would like to get rid of the spacers, and would like to know the width of a kzj rear diff, disc face to face. I already have the housing, and might try to source some axles and do a disc 'conversion' to loose the drum hand brake. The housing I have is 1350mm flange to flange.
