leaf springs for 70 series

Post by fourby »

im after bit of advice on what brand of leafs to replace the factory original items fitted to my cruiser. ive snapped one rear pack and bent a front 1. the truck has been leaning over to drivers side for awhile now so figured better look at replacing them. been told old man emu is the way to go but not sure if you can get them in standard height?(truck is bj73 with s.o.a). also heard efs are good aswell. any help on this matter would be awsome
cheers Ryan

Get custom ones made up to suit the S.O.A brand new stardard height springs will make ya truck really high which is no good for wheeling. With S.O.A you need basicly flat springs. :D

Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

with a SOA you usually go with some soft sagged out springs to bring the height back down and give it some flex but that also increases body roll so its a bit of a catch 22 and not easy to get the ballance right, I dunno if putting a set of standard height OME or EFS would make the truck that drivable offroad with the narrow track and high COG you'd end up with but I guess that comes down to what you use the truck for. Cant remember his user name on here but the Chch joker with the red 70 series in the pic did a SOA recently and seemed to get a reasonable ride height so maybe worth tracking him down and finding out what spring packs he used?

for what its worth if I had the choice I'd rather be throwing money and time at coil springs than old cart spring technology Image

how did you bend and break the springs did they invert the shackles or did you have axle tramp or just giving everything too much shit? :?:

Yea Dan who owns that red truck has used old worn out flat springs, he compared his two identical trucks one sprung under with 2" lift and his other with S.O.A and the sprung over was 100mm higher. Hes done a really good job of his.

the height it sits at atm is good running 37s no body lift the tires just fit.the leafs will definatly be sagged factory ones. so yeh guess putting brand new standard height leafs wont be ideal as dont want to lift it anymore.im mainly trying to fix the leaning to one side and breaking leafs thing, have anti inversion shackles but still bent. may have to investigate coil conv more

that sounds about same height as mine.mines 150mm higher than a spring under landcruiser with factory height springs

save yourself the grief and a ton of money and buy a coil sprung wagon and go from there.. had a 70 with ome gear and was awesome but you be constantly thinking about tipping no matter what you put under it let alone the cost.. My new truck in comparison.. no comparison.. milles apart in every way.. save and get something better.. my 2 cents worth..
