can i use the numberplates off the new chassie.
l am going to build up a hilux for a mate but he just went in to see if reg is still on hold but it died last week.
we are going to put a prado chassie under it and a commodore motor under early single cab hilux. so can i use plates off chassie ?
what numberplates to use
Re: what numberplates to use
Depends on whether the chassis or body is recognised as been the VIN for registration.
If VIN stamped on chassis then I would think chassis, but if stamped on body it will be the body that needs registering.
Some vehicle have both tagged.

Generally the plates belong to the chassis. It would be called a re-bodied Prado.
Re: what numberplates to use
could it not be certed as a scratch built instead?

The plates go with the chassis.
But in saying that at certification time you can specify with the certifier whether you want to call it a modified production or home built
